Paint Quality.....hmm......interesting.........

I don't know if any of you guys/girls still happen to have a 2000 Maxima Brochure on hand, I use to have one, but lost it. Anyways, I was looking through the 2000 Altima brochure, and I came across a page in it that explains the Diamond Test. In it, Nissan states that their patented DURASTEEL has a nickel-rich precoating design to reduce.....what else? But Paint Chipping!

It further says, to test this (heh) they shoot diamonds at the metal using a compressed air gun. Its a high-impact way to judge the resilience of the protective coat.

So basically, what does this all mean?? If I hear alot of people here voicing out about how poor the quality of paint is on the max (and on my 2001 Altima with that damn small inch of rust!! )
then someone here is either lying or you guys are all beating the crap out of your cars too much! (No, J/K! )

The funny thing is, for the 2001 and 2002 Maxima and Altima brochures, none of this is even mentioned. Did they run out of diamonds?? Something's not Kosher here.............

I ahve had problems with my paint as well. In the 5 months I have had the car, I already have 4 large spots in the hood where the paint has chipped away (probably from rock on highway). I have been driving the same route for a few years, and with all of my previous cars, I never had paint dings like this. Just proves Nissan paint sucks.

Nissan Paint = sh%%ty
Nissan Service = Sh%%ty
Beating the ricers with a sedan = priceless

Paint Sucks!!!

I also have the 2000 brochure and it does mention about the diamond test. I own a 2001 Max Se but do not have the brochure for that year. Prior to that, I owned a 94 Max GXE. Sold the 94 GXE a few months ago. Mileage was 240,000. Friends kept complementing me on how I took care of the exterior. No more than half a dozen paint chips on it. Now my friends are telling me that I am slacking off with the new Max. My cleaning and waxing routine has not changed. I drive the car a total of 40 miles during the week. Always wash and clean it on Fridays. Every couple of weeks, I see a new chip develop somewhere. Ticks me off. The chips are also in places where not much contact can be made. I have a couple on the hood close to where the wipers are. A couple on the back part of the roof. A couple on the trunk right under the spoiler. These are the questionable ones. I lost the chip count on front bumber and the front of the hood. There once was a site that was gathering info on Max owners having paint problems to start a class action suit. I think you can still get to it but it is not maintained anymore. If you register, you get error all over the place. Either they gave up on it or they were bought-out by Nissan. Wish I found out about this issue and this ORG before I bought the new Max.

I'll see if I can. The part on the Diamond Test is a small shot in the brochure.

even if it is a small shot... make sure that it is clear that is the brochure for the 2000 maxima made by nissan. that's important.

I don't have the 2000 Maxima brochure, but from what I remember, I'm almost 99% Positively certain it is the same shot as the 2000 Altima brochure. You might want to ask Dave to confirm this.
