Interesting Find Last Night!!!!

I was trying to isolate the sound of the banging(previous post), and was doing small burn outs to replicate it for my tuner at his house. They just paved his road and he told me to do a burn out for quite a while to get the sound to come back because the short ones weren't working, and we did find the sound it was my exhaust piping knocking on the upper bend. Anyway I got out of the car to examine the burnout marks and guess what......I LEFT TWO WHEEL TRACKS OF RUBBER ON THE ROAD! how is this possible? I have a 2000 GXE and we all know 2000's don't have LSD

They pave the roads vertically and usually separated by a day or so, so that the road doesn't have to be closed. Maybe you were straddling the line when you did the burnouts and one side was softer than the other.

um what are you talking about MichaelAE? I am wondering about the two tire marks on the road? We all know 2000-2001 is a one wheel drive car!

A non LSD will send power to the wheel with less traction as in one wheel on ice one on asphalt. The ice wheel will spin and you will go nowhere.
In the case you describe equal traction splits equally.
Try it while turning and the inside wheel will spin.

Yes but it is not supposed to be equal traction thats the whole idea of lsd. I see your point on the turns though haven't been able to observe that one yet.

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure what I was thinking...my brain didn't click on that one.

All my maximas(95, 98 I30 and 02) always leave 2 wheel burnout marks. Even when I chirp 2nd it leaves two patches.

You sure about that? I remember having a discussion with a guy who has a 4th gen in Canada and his sig pic has a Nitrious Max doing a two wheel smokeout and he said the reason why is because Canada's 4th gens had lsd. Jason King also admits that the max is a one wheel drive and thats the reason he did so much work on his max.

here's my guess:

relatively the same coefficient of friction underneath each tire = no one tire slipping at a rate vastly different from the other = two patches of rubber (when the wheels are pointed straight)

an open differential will only begin to slip when one wheel has less traction than the other; for example, in a full lock turn, or when one wheel is on ice and the other on asphalt

just my $0.02....cheers

So if Jason King spent all this money on LSD or something of the sort for a drag race it was a waste of cash. However, if Jason removes his sounds and wants to take part in autoX then it was money well spent?

if it was for drag racing, that's a different story. there are hardcore drag racers who will weld their open differentials together to seriously hook up at the start. just don't ask them to take a turn

Jason's got the best of both worlds, so to speak, near instant hook up in a drag race...and the ability to get the most speed and traction through a turn in an autoX ...that's my guess

cheers

Some of those all wheel drive Eclipse/Talon owners used to weld their diffs too. It would enable you to kick the rear end out coming out of a parking lot if you cut the wheel. Now exactly how this works I'm not sure. Anyone?
