Nitrous problems???

I have searched numerous threads and other than people 'thinking' there will be problems with a nitrous install (which I am contemplating), I have not seen much in the actual reports of problems.

What I am trying to find out is how many (if any) Max owners with nitrous have had ANY amount of damage to the car that needed to be repaired. I am concerned with engine damage, not an overstressed tranny.

I am not looking for the super high shot setups, just the typical (perhaps 65 shot) applications.

Thanks!

Hey jjs, there is a lot of misconception about NOS, many dont know that when the NOS is sprayed in, the nos temp is around -127Celcius which contribute to lower the engine temp. Like someone told me recently NOS is more like an art to set-up, one thing you prolly wanna do if your auto is to strenghten the tranny and do a VB recalibration. I'm still debating between S/C and juice, if cost is an issue I guess that NOS is the way to go.

Cheers

Thanks for some input. That is my dilemma as well, the way to get the most bang (the good kind) for the buck...safely.

Should I do the juice, I realize I will need to do some work on my 5 speed.

JJS, most of the install problems that are encountered are on 2k2's because they have no fuel return. The 2k1 does, so that should eliminate your biggest install problem.

I'm running a 65 shot Zex kit on my 2k1.
Everything is running well (and fast).

What kit are you going with? ZEX? NOS?

I am still new to this and doing research, but I guess ZEX at this point. I really want the safest (for the engine) bump to the 275-290 hp range. Nothing massively wild, just a little more ooomph on tap.

As a result of this thread, and a bunch of searching I am finding a wealth of info out there...this is quickly becoming one of those "more info...more confusion" scenarios.

I just got my car back today, and I'm now running a zex kit 75 shot, zex recomends 75 and over to get a bigger fuel pump, just an estimate, but with 75 shot you get 45-55 more horses I'm guessing, and zex is the way to go, I researched this for a few months, unless you get a s/c hope this helps out....Bernie

Damage to motors by members of this forum include blown rings, bent valves and cooked pistons... but I'll still use it...

Don't forget the high potential for burnt-up trannys and clutches...

But, I firmly believe most of the breakdowns are due to poor preparation or monitoring during N2O use.

The car needs some upgrades for each level of N2O use (i.e. step cooler plugs to prevent detonation, or tranny coolers and a VB mod for autos), and the car has to be monitored (via occasional dyno testing and in-car gauges) to keep the air, fuel, and oil in correct proportions. The more N2O you add, the more upgrades and monitoring you need.

But, as long as the necessary precautions and upgrades are made, to handle the extra power, you will get a long full life out of the car, even with frequent nitrous use. It is just cold air!
