Has anyone else noticed this? With the car completely stock, it has absolutely no sound under maybe like 5K. After that, you get a little sound, but it sounds like its wheezing. Did Nissan use that much more sound insulation to mute the engine sound on the 2002-03? I personally like the more aggressive sound of the 2000-01 VQ motor. It had a little character to it at least. Does the 02 intake have additional resonators compared to the 00-01 that could be removed?

I got 00 VQ that I'll trade ya ;)

I'll even give you that oh-so-sought-after early 5th gen auto tranny. Since the tranny is original, its practically a collectors item.

That plus your wife's Pathfinder?

Actually I wonder whose car is worth more...yours or mine? Especially now since the accident and the additional options yours has over mine. In any case, I just couldn't be happy with the auto.

How did the clear coat on your wheel wells issue work out?

Well, I can understand why. Its a nice vehicle. And as much as I gripe and complain about the Maxima, its a super nice car too.

The 02 and 03's sound more like the 95-99's which are very quiet and donot make any sound unless you step on it. The 00 and 01's make more of a muffler sound that you can hear inside and outside if you happen to be out by one while its acclerating, I think its the muffler.

I think the biggest difference in cabin engine noise might be that the throttle by wire and cable shift conduct less noise and (noticeably) vibration into the cabin than the earlier throttle cable and rod shifter.

One thing i did for a deeper growl was to remove the silencer? that connects the throttle body to the airbox. I really had to stretch the tubing that connects the throttle body to the airbox, but it worked (should get a longer tube though). It has a nice sound over 4000 rpms. The only thing with this is that the small tube that connects to the plastic piece from the engine is left open because it no longer connects to anything. I haven't had any problems though. Any ideas?

I always liked the way my 2K GXE sounded when I started it up. When I first started my 2K2, I noticed an immediate difference. It is too quiet and doesn't give the same whine as the 2K. I am thinking about getting a muffler just for that extra audible note.

I hate to equate the 2K2 Max with a fart. However, it is silent BUT deadly!!

I thought the same thing when I first got mine. Now 4000 miles later It seems like it is getting louder. How many miles are on yours?

I get enough "growl" and noise in the Vette...I really love the nice quietness of the Maxima.

The motor is one of the things I love the most about my 02 GLE. Being able to cruise effortlessly at 80mph on the freeway and have almost no engine noise is okay with me.

Having enough horsepower to smoke the tires for 100 feet is pretty cool too!

If you cut that big resonator out of the exhuast, every now and then if you stand behind the car while its idling, you can hear a hint of a small block chevy burble.

If nobody gripes and complains about the car, it's never going to improve.

This is why all the blind Honda-huggers that buy nothing but Honda's no matter how slow they are continue to get **** products (in terms of performance). Honda knows this so they don't even bother trying.

Keep on griping and complaining, buddy!
