2002 maxima

ok hopefully no one will take this the wrong way
i am not a troll

ok
i have a 2002 subaru wrx
pretty highly modded
the last time i was at a track roughly 1 month ago i ran a 12.91 in the 1/4. I raced a newer maxima tonight definetly manual and i was barely pulling on him. now my question is how is the top end in these cars. what are the stock 1/4 times and any other info on that
now i test drove one way back when they first came out i only drove in heavy traffic so there was very little getting on it at all but i couldnt tell this much difference from mine which was stock at the time
oh and when he got on it i didnt hear any exhaust or any intake chug type of sounds what so ever

alright
thanks
guys/gals
peace out

First, welcome........

I ran a 14.2 bone stock in my 6spd after I had about 3000 miles on it (see sig.). Thats the fastest verified time for stock 6spds, most others run from 14.3 to 14.5 or so. Trap speeds for 6spds are anywhere from 95-99mph, so the top end is there...though I along with others wish for more. If you take a look at a stock 2K2 6spds dyno chart you'll notice that the hp peaks around 5.5K rpms and drops off noticeably to redline (6.5K). If it held on the rest of the way, I'm sure we could get 100 or 100+mph trap speeds in ideal conditions. Right now we really only have intakes, pulleys, and mufflers to choose from for power mods (aside from nitrous). Once a Y-pipe (race pipe) is released along with maybe a timing advance or ECU tuning....top end *should* go up dramatically.

Most of the auto 2K2 Maxims run anywhere from 14.6-15.0 at around 92-94mph. I'm not really sure, but that is what I recall from some auto guys sigs.

Thats pretty darn impressive of a 1/4 mile. High 12s is no easy feat. I assume you are doing intensive high rpm launches to take advantage of the AWD (6spd 60' times range from 2.20 to 2.5X ). What is your trap speed by the way and what mods do you have?

Thats a nice looking car, I especially like the lowered ride height. I think the closest a Maxima on this board can come to that (without nitrous) is one of the supercharged cars. I cant remember exactly but I think there was a 5th gen (a 2000 or 2001, not 2002 with the bigger engine) that was running 13 flat at around your trap speed. I dont know the details of that (drag radials or not) either. Fortunately for us, there is some custom turbo kits being fabricated that equal that supercharged guys hp/tq with only 4lbs of boost. Its obviously not cheap though.

With mods like Y-pipe and ECU, most of us 6spd guys plan to be in the high 13s pretty soon.

I'm not sure how much you know about Maximas, but 2002 and 2003 are the only years of the bigger 3.5L engine. 2000/2001 (with the same body style) had like 23hp less and a good deal less torque as well. The only way to tell if the car has the bigger motor is that 2002-03 has a different (larger) grilled and clear tails and HID lights, although some 00-01 guys buy the HIDs and clear tails to make the car look like an 02-03. Oh yeah, 00-01 were 5spd and 00-02 are 6spds.

yea this guy had hid and clears but it sounded completely stock it maybe due to my gear ratios or some off the wall crap or just that my car isnt running as good as it used too but i was pulling the hole time and it wasnt till like 100+ maybe a lil less before i was in front of him
oh btw there were 2 races but both from a role the first time i thought i just wasnt ready and shifted too early but no we raced again and it was the same
oh well im going to the track next weekend for war of the imports i'll find out how im running there, its in rockingham nc
damn only 4lbs to run 13s is incredible im pushing 18.xxpsi and running 12.9s but thats with spare, system.

Yeah, we were all pretty happy at the power 4lbs could get us. I guess it has alot to do with engine displacement. There is a dynoslip and timeslip sub forum you may want to check out too.

When you first get on maxima.org and click on forums it gives you a list of all the forums (general, 5th gen, 4th gen, etc), its towards the bottom under test and tune I think.

No prob., we always enjoy visitors. Its a pretty good group here, but we like any other site, have some bad apples, so dont mind them if they pop up.

If you're running in the 12s you should have smoked him. That's of course if he was bone stock.

Those are stock I believe. You can get a gauage pod package.

a good portion of that 12.9 is thanks to a high RPM AWD launch. he said both races were from a roll so without the advantange of that AWD launch it makes sense that the maxima lost but didnt totally get blown away.
