Had the dealer remove the wind deflector (started cracking after 1 freaking week!). Now, at about 80 mph I get a lovely whine out of the roof. Has anyone else experienced this? Any clue what the fix is?

The cracking is a known problem. You should have gotten a free one as a replacement. I did.

 

The wind deflector is the only way to get rid of that noise. I have never had one, and will never buy one due to the fact that they all crack no matter what you do. Your only option is to get a stick on Universal one like the ones they sell at Pep Boys and places like that. I personally dont like those either. I just deal with the noise, turn the music up !

 

Remove the damn thing and toss it in the garbage where it belongs. It's a lot quieter without it anyhow.

 

I removed mine too. Less noise I think without it, and the car looks better. Also, I could never really get it clean under that thing.

 

I'm thinking about removing mines, how long did you have it on before you removed it? If I take it of I'm sure I will have to hit the parts under it with some swirlmark remover

Also, the sunroof makes a lot of wind noise with or without the deflector. It really gets on my nerves so I just turn the radio up like Kloogy.

 

Good luck with the marsk left behind. Took mine off after about 2 months of use and still have not gotten rid of the marks. If they have abraded through the clear, oh well....

 

they must have changed vendors on the deflectors.. My 2k one is thick as hell and I've torqued it *TIGHT* and been thru 3 seasons, even taking some debris at high speed.. no problems. not even a nick.

Our 2k PF one was bought in 2001 and is just as thick and tough.

I like to have my sunroof open at hwy speeds, so I feel the deflector is needed. I've tried without it.. definately less turbulence/quieter with it on.

 

i got mine w/o a deflector and I have no complaints. I have yet to experience any noise at higher speeds - *knock on wood*

 

I seem to remember this too.. the deflector on the 2000 was tough as nails. Not on the 2002..

 

no noise noticed over here. nice and quiet. the rear windows are a different story though.

 

Same here on my 2k1. Wonder if you 2k2 guys, can swap yours out with either the 2k, or 2k1. Just a thought.

 

My 2 week old car has the cracked deflector, just 2 right around each of the 2 screws.

 

I agree, its way to loud without it at Highway speeds.

 

I noticed one thing, lets say i'm on the hwy going about 80, I here a lot of wind noise coming from the sunroof. But when I push up on the rear black metal part of the sunroof, all the noise goes away. I think the glass is not propersly aligned with the roof. I'm going to have it checked out by the dealer. Has anyone had any luck with this noise?

 

I have a 2K1 Sunroof deflector on my 2K2 and it is alot stronger than the 2K2. My original 2K2 wind deflector cracked and i asked for the 2K1 because i knew it was made better. Anyway, I am willing to sell this deflector to someone if the arre looking for one. I think I want to remove mine so if anyone out there is interested in buying it from me email me at pmas76@aol.com. I have the deflector. But without it, it felt more like a convertable, with the wind in my hair (what is left of it). My wife started to complain that the WIND WAS MESSING HER HAIR. That is why I got the deflector. I miss that convertable feeling. Why the hell did I listen.

 

Finally some others with the wind noise...I'm rally not going nuts. I've had mine in four times now and it's worse than when I started...including the fact the Dealer dented my roof. Keep us informed of how you make out. Maybe they'll finally realize there's a problem.

I believe the rubber gasket around the glass is a tad too small for the roof opening. It leaves the slightest gap along an edge which is just enough for highway speed wind to push its way in along with any rain out there. Then you get a nice gurggle as the wind and water mix in the seam. Never had any issue with my two old Honda's.
