2002 Place Racing CAI Install and Question

Ok, I finally installed my PR CAI only after watching it sit in the box for like 3 months. I live in FL, where it rains all day every day in the winter, so I waited until I had time to install and verify that the install went ok (without it raining in the process).

I installed the CAI per PR's instructions. They were very good as far as the wording, and the install went fairly quick (2 hours, including removing the stock airbox).

Here's my question: Whenever I hit the gas, I hear a quick .5 second "whistle" that is similar to the blow-off valve on a turbo engine. Is that normal? I don't hear it while HOLDING the gas, just when I hit the gas enough to raise the RPMs by 500-1000 higher than where it was. It happens at all RPM levels. Meaning that I idle at 600, then give it a punch of gas causing it to jump to 1500, then I hear the whistle. I DON'T hear it under normal acceleration. Is something wrong, or should I expect that?

As far as you people who want to know about how it feels, sounds, handles.... It's great. The engine is substantially louder at WOT, while not being annoying during cruising. Here's the funny thing... the engine now MATCHES the exhaust's sound, and they cancel each other out. It's kinda odd... but when cruising at 80 MPH in 6th gear, it's almost as quiet as being in a bone-stock car.

Oh, and BTW... pictures coming soon (once I find my digital camera)

Pictures are now available

Found my camera. Got pictures. Will get audio later on.

I posted them on my web-site devoted to my car, but I haven't uploaded the site yet, so there's not much there yet.

Makes it like you got a turbo spool whine.
