2 races tonight (2k2 honda accord beat by a sc2 saturn)
Im at work and my friend has a saturn sc2 hatchback. He always talks how fast that car is so we made a bet that his car will not beat me off the line 20$ (that car weights 1000 lbs less than my 2k2 maxima). He has a lot of stuff done to it by the way. First time we race I beat him 1 1/2 cars up to 60 second and third time it was by 2 cars. Then this girl at my work asks me to race her 2k2 HONDA ACCORD. So we do it I get in her car and my friend takes his saturn. We take off and the saturn beats me by a car. Then we switch the cars I race in saturn and my friend races the accord, Saturn wins again by 1 1/2 cars. This girl thinks that we r cheatin so her friend gets in the ACCORD and the saturn wins again. What is the moral of this story HONDA ACCORD is slow
If I didnt see it I wouldnt believe it

whoa you don't know sarcastic when you see it and by the way I don't believe that BS about the accord 0-60 5.9 sec haha the 6 spd max is still faster and is already available so the accord fails again.

here we go again...
if an accord v6 is to meet or beat performance of 2k2 max se, it better be comparable to the tls and cls....especially in terms of torque....
heck look at the s2000 (which I out ran one by several car lengths for 2 mile stretch about 4 months ago on highway) ... 240 ponies from 2.0 liter engine and a pitiful 160ish lb-ft of torque... all this at nearly 8000 rpms....
one more thing, them stock wheels and tires on the accord v6's whether they be 4doors or coupes aren't geared for performance... i haven't see a stock accord with anything larger than a 205/60r15...why cause they don't...

The S2000 Only makes 153lb.-ft of torque, and I believe it's at 9,000 RPMS. The S2000 must be the biggest slug around town. You have to revv your brains out every time you want speed..that would get so annoying IMHO.
Honda doesn't seem to understand that there is no replacement for displacement. They can make all the HP they wan't but it's no good without any torque to get you off the line. That's why Nissan increased the VQ from 3.0 to 3.5 which gave it a significant increase in torque.

well, honda could've also went the turbo route, and for a car that light, it would've actually been ideal if they wanted more torque instead of adding displacement. honda just wants to be "out there" and... I guess they got that...
i wouldn't buy an s2k even if it's cheaper and faster than a 2.5L Z3 - it just don't make sense to drive around the city getting dusted by grandma in her olds

As far as the new 2003 Accord, I say its about damn time Honda stepped up to the plate and got their head out of their a$$ to begin to compete with Nissan performance wise.

"During the press briefing, Baker made claims that the Accord V6 powerplant would make us forget about the new Nissan Altima's 3.5-liter V6. We beg to differ, having driven our long-term Altima 3.5 SE to the Accord launch. In contrast to the Nissan, the Honda upshifts and downshifts more fluidly and with less kick, but when the Accord's engine is revved, it fails to delight with any eagerness or urgency to rush to speed the way the Altima's V6 does. The Altima is a thrill ride when the go-pedal is mashed; the Accord is not. This, we're certain, is sure to please traditional Accord buyers, but it's not going to appeal to performance-minded folks."
"When punished on twisty mountain roads near Los Angeles, the EX V6 sedan exhibited sloppy handling compared with vehicles like the Altima 3.5 SE, the Mazda 6, the Volkswagen Passat and even the Toyota Camry SE. "

So? 6spd Max's do 14.3 vs. about 14.6 for the new AV6. Max 6spd and Alty 3.5 5spd owners will not need to sweat (too much )

Traded in 2002 Accord EX V6 for 2003 GLE
I had a 2002 Black Accord V6 EX sedan. It looked nice and all but where it mattered, performance, it was slow, especially off a red light or from a complete stop. My parents bought a 2002 Accord V6 as well but that one had quite a bit more pick up than mine. I went to the dealer to ask about this but he simply told me to wait until the first 7500 mile service and see. I only had 1200 miles on it but I insisted how different the acceleration was compared to my parent's Accord. I even told him how my 1990 Camry V6 with 110,000 miles has way better pick up than the Accord. He simply told me that's how Honda transmission work and that I'd have to get used to it. To make a long story short, I just went for it and traded it in for 2003 Maxima GLE before the 2003 Accords come out and I'd lose even more. They gave me 20,000 for the Accord trade-in. I lost 3,000 but in the long run I'm way happy. I usually keep cars for a long time, still have my first car, 1990 Camry (use it for work, wouldn't want kids where I work to key it or something-I'm a H.S. teacher). This Maxima is simply great. The acceleration is phenomenal, the interior looks way classier than the Accord. The auto climate control works much better and is quieter than the Accord's. The Bose system is great. I guess I got a good deal on the 2002 Accord since the 2003 is coming out but the acceleration and performance just depressed me. Also, gas economy is better on the Maxima despite the larger engine. With the Accord, I would get 230 miles to the tank. Of course I cruised mostly city and with the A/C on around 65 degrees. The Maxima has given me consistently 300 miles on a full tank with city driving. I don't know if it's good or not but compared with the Honda, it's great. Sorry it's long. It's great to have found this forum. Just wanted to share my experience. Thanks!

i totally agree, having driven my friends 99 accord, and test driving a 2000 accord v6, the difference is the torque, you can have the hp.
