Better Handling??

Do you guys get better handling when you have the OverDrive button on? I seem to have alot better control of the car especially on turns I use the button so much now im burning all my gas but its worth it.

how does OD button going to affect handling? I use it on freeway when I need to pass cars, it kicks back to the 3rd gear.

handling

Just a guess here but I believe the improved handling you feel you are getting is basically that you are going slower through the turns. Turning generally involves some acceleration (pressing the gas) followed by some braking. With the overdrive button on (meaning overdrive is locked out) the engine will be slowing the car down faster when you release the gas pedal. This would affectively mean you are braking quicker. Just a guess, I can't imagine any other way it would impact handling.

Re: handling

The only thing I can think of is that you are transferring weight quicker to the front or rear of your car since the engine braking is more pronounced.

thats about it

Handling?

I don't think handling would improve (in fact).. think about it, if you were to drive only in first and second gear is the car going "handle" better or just move at higher rpms and go slower? wishful thinking though

You guys don't get it...
In a manual, YOU tell the car what gear it's in, then take your corner and that's that.. you have exact control of the car's speed.

In an automatic, if you take a corner and let off the gas (which you usually will) the car upshifts and you get less pedal feel. Engine braking is lost. This is a big deal, and is why I knock my 4-speed auto into 3rd in an agressive turn (exit ramp for example).

I think i understand what you're trying to say. But i wouldn't actually call it better handling, more like "more responsive". Whenever i keep it in 3 the tranny doesn't have to upshift/downshift as much and no TC to lock/unlock which translates to better pick-up when needed and thus more control over engine power and ultimately the way the car moves around.

Agreed. Maybe a better term would be 'more control'.
