Out with the Franken, in with the Injen...

So I had enough of the Frankentake today. I was on the DC beltway and it was serious hot and serious traffic. I had been driving for about 40 minutes. I went to hit the gas to jump over to the next lane to exit.... bluhhhhh (huge Bog) almost stalled out, and got rear-ended. So I started hitting the gas a lot to test what was going on and I can hear the intake suck real hard then the car would bog. It took forever for the car to pick up.

It is clear that in high-humid heat the car doesn't do well with real hot air that obviously is being taken in by the frankencar.

I came home and called George at Adventon right away. He is a real nice guy and wants customer feedback. I recommend talking with him anytime you need something or want someone to track something for you. Nice guy.

Anyhoo, when the Injen gets here BigDog and I are setting up a Dyno appointment to test the two pieces before and after. I will keep you posted.

Dont worry fellows, I will be there with either a video camera or something to document the dyno and a rack of pics with my Digi cam.

It's been the same here in MA and I've seen no issues with the intake in this weather. I used to feel the bog with the stock box though.

I went from stock, to Berk, to Frankencar, to Injen. I wonder what the next logical step is.

It would really help if you could compare with stock and end the repeated "does a CAI/HAI improve performance" debates. Either way I look forward to seeing the numbers.

I reaally dont see how you could blame that on a Frankencar, or a Berk. I wonder how much modding you guys have done to other cars. I personally think this is an absurd thread. But to each his own.

yeah, i'm not sure i understand the logic either. how do the different intakes each handle environmental moisture and temperature differently? it occurs to me that hot humid air is still hot and humid regardless of what filter and/or midpipe it's passing thru.
i honestly don't know, so no flaming, just explain to me what i'm missing here.

Hot air outside is one thing 95 deg., but its 300 in the bay with the fans from the rad. blowing right at your intake. At least with an ingen the intake is away from the heat from that fan.

Now I see why Nissan put that goofy box on there, to insulate the air from the radiator heat blowing INTO the engin bay.

But i thought the Injen had the filter sitting directly behind (e.g. within the path) of the radiator?

I don't have one but it looks like it is below (the radiator)? Any one.. help us out.

the intake on the Injen sits just below the radiator. The air that gets brought into the intake from Injen should be at least 20 degrees cooler than the air sitting at the top of the engine bay where the Franken is. This is the science between CAI and HAI.

Kloogy - I have modded a few cars, Civic, w/ B18 Swap. I had a 97 Maxima, and now also have a GTI 337 w/ 1.8T. I am not the engine master but I have modded quite a bit, and I understand what the Injen will do for me vs. the Franken.

I also found yesterday whnen I took the Franken out for some cleaning that the Filter is rubbing the negative cable so bad that the cable is loosing its covering and getting to the metal. And the K&N is literally getting worn into the filter, the metal is almost gone where the cable is rubbing back and forth.

Short story is this thing has to come out.

I wish the franken bracket I got sent actually worked but it didnt, it put my intake too high and the hood would smash it.

Give them a call. George might do it. He was suprised that there was such a large Max following.

Someone already tried it with Adenton and I they they came back with saying George is already blowing all his competitors prices away and cant really go much lower. I read it somewhere in the Group Deals section.

It's already I think only $217.. That's pretty darn cheap compared to all the other places..

I don't claim to know the scientific reasonings and benefits between my old Frankencar and my Injen. I'm fairly well informed and could debate the two fairly well, but bottom line is that I am much happier with my Injen. Throttle response was vastly improved and there is no bog after sitting in traffic. I miss the impressive WOT sound of the FC, but the Injen sounds good in its own way, especially at low RPMs. However, there is nothing wrong with the Frankencar...I liked it very much for the time I had it!

I'm in Seattle...that's about as close as I can get and still be governed by a corrupt, hypocritical government...so I'll stay down here thank you.
