Horsepower gains

Does anyone have an number for increase horsepower after replacing your exhaust pipes not muffler for an 2k1 AE Automatic. I would like to keep the muffler but replace everything else. Thanks

you can probably expect to see 1-2 hp gains for replacing the b-pipe and not the muffler, and another 1-2 if you replace the muffler with a high flow... Exhaust work is mostly for noise, not horsepower...

now, if you get an intake and ypipe, that'll get you about 15+.

I believe that even if you replace the entire exhaust system it'll give you 2 horsepower. Intake and Y-Pipe will give you around 16-20hp.

hmmm, stock 2k1 max, 222 hp.

add:
intake +5 $60
ypipe +10 $350
full exhaust +4 $300
udp +5 $200 ?
grounding system +5 $100
= +29 hp ~$1000

222+29= 251 hp!

Dang it, we still lose to a 2k2...

The HP alone aint all of it, them 2k2s with the 6spd gear ratios are killers.

if we can't increase power, how bout losing weight? remove any unnecessary weight, replace heavy stock rims for lighter ones, etc. there are always things you can do to go faster.

look at this way

Dont look at it in terms of crank hp. What are the 2000-2001's getting on the dyno 180 190 or so? If you can get to about 210 to the wheels you should be good to go. My 95 isnt much slower than my 2k2 believe me. Ive driven a 2000 auto but never a manual. It was pretty quick. Plus i'd figure the 2k2 is probably heavier than the 2000-01's. So with all those mods i imagine you'd beat or hang right with the 2k2. Couldnt say for sure cause I ve never really raced one.

Wow, i was really just bored, but it got some people interested i guess..

bad00: no one has ever been able to find a single difference between the AE configuration and normal (other than downturned exhaust tips) so I'm going with the fact that the AE has the same 222 as all the others...

Craaaazy: yes, if you reduce your car weight, run on light 15's, and what not, then yes, you will be faster...

95/2k2:6maxima: 2k-2k1 manuals get about 185 to the wheels stock. 2k2+ manuals get 205-210 (i believe - could be lower), with all bolt ons and what not i believe the 2k1 manuals are around 205...

So, whatever, it'll be close, i was just messing around and adding stuff up for fun. Internet racing is cool! But anyway, all i know is, after i get all the bolt ons (2 years+) I'd better be in the 14's...

Im confused. Im new but bear with me! How does only replacing the Y-pipe give you so much more power? I figure on a big 6 like the Max's 3.5, there would be more to gain with a nice 2.5" full exhuast?

The Ypipe does so much for a max cause it removed the factory pre-cats. Also the pipes are mandrel bent for better flow.

Ok, thanks for the info. Where are the Y-pipes? Right after the factory manifold but before the cats? How many cats are on my damn max! I need to jack her up and look!

anyone dyno their car with the y-pipe and CAI?

thanks again!

The ypipe is from the factory manifold to the beginning of the Cat. You can currently get them from Cattman and Stillen and possible WarpSpeedPerformance. Now you have a 2002, you have 4 O2 sensors. Dont worry about how many Cats you have. You currenty cannot get a Ypipe cause no one has officailly released one that bolts straight on.

Cars have been dynoed after the Ypipe and CAI and seen almost 15-20hp difference.

depends on how good ur cat is...usually u should drive around and warm up everything before smog check....a lot of people just take off the y pipe any put the stock back for the test.

I think 4th gen people have more experience playing around with the y pipe...give them a try.

This 15 to 20 increase of horsepower is from the engine or the wheels.
