Getting a 2003 - CAI question
Getting a 2003 - CAI question
I am in the market for a new 2k3 Max SE 6 spd now that my 92 GXE is on the brink of retirement
(over 200K miles). And thanks to you guys I have pretty much made my list of mods to make on the car, although I am still deciding on the rims. My question concerns the intake modifications. I notice some of you if not most have Berk or K&N conical air filters. Besides the expense, how much difference is there between the Berk or K&N conical filters and a full fledge CAI with the piping extending down to the fender or below the lower grill? It would seem that the CAI with the pipes extending to the fender or grill would pull cooler air and thus create more power gains.
Another quick question. For the 2k3, what do you guys think looks better, the Titanium exterior or the Sheer Silver? So many decisions!

I don't have an intake yet, so can't really say too much about that. But for colors, go with the Polished Titanium color! That color is so tight, and unique. The Sheer silver is pretty nice too, but I think the Altima and other Nissan/Infinitis have that option.
I own the Place Racing CAI for my 2002, and it's awesome. I have a MagnaFlow inline dual-tip muffler, and it's matched with PR's CAI. The engine is actually louder than the muffler, and the power increase was noticeable. I peeled out of my neighborhood right after I installed it. It takes the ECU a few days to learn the CAI (or any new intake), but once it does, hold on. As far as the temperature... I live in Florida, where it's 90+ almost everyday. My engine temp guage needle is one tick mark below half way all the time. I ran the car for 2 hours in 95+ degree heat at over 80 MPH, and it never raised above that tick mark. Alot of people are concern about cutting the hole in the driver's fenderwell. Don't be. You need 2 parts that are less than $40 total. A 3.25" hole saw, and the hole saw drill bit. It makes a perfect hole, and cleans up nicely. Hope this helps.
It would be nice to DYNO a Frankencar vs. a PR CAI.... any takers on the Frankencar side? I'm setup to dyno on the 17th of August in Orlando, FL. PM me if you're interested.

I went from a frankencar intake to an Injen CAI and I love the Injen. I had MAF issues with the Frankencar which were gone after I installed the Injen. The Injen pulls harder and is quieter than the Frankencar IMO. Installation of the Injen is easier than the Place Racing, but not as easy as a Frankencar/Berk type of intake. Hope it helps...
