Nissan Warranty Who's got it?

Just trying to figure out how many of you went with the nissan warranty when you purchsed your max. It was $1500.00 for me. I will be refinancing my car soon and have not used my warranty. Is this warranty better than my credit unions warranty? I was thinking why not get rid of the warranty before i refinance and that would be about $1400 less on my new refinanced loan. I need some opinions on this, preferable from soemone that has experience with the nissan warranty.

what are the points of interest for the credit union warranty?? how much does it cost and what does it cover???

if your credit union warranty is as good as mine and covers as much as it does.....go with the credit union!!! i paid 800 for mine with the credit union and it covers all the expensive ish to repair for 100K miles

if the credit union's policy is not that favorable...then stick with nissan.....

get the most for your money!!!

those policies come in soooooo handy in the longrun

I'm assuming you mean the extended warranty. I don't have experience with Nissan warranties in particular but I have experience with others. From my experience, these warranties are a waste of money, so I did not buy it. The sellers use these warraties to get more money from you knowing that most of the time they will come out ahead. If you have the cash, just invest the money you would have wasted on a warranty and use that money for any needed repairs in the future.

My $0.02.

I disagree....with my warranty...one or two repairs pay for the cost of the warranty

my previous experience with it was on my sentra...I replaced the water pump, altenator, valve gasket cover, timing chain, and gauges and the front axle all under warranty and didnt have to pay a dang penny....and I got to choose the repair shop that i wanted to use

when labor is 68 an hour and parts are over 400 bucks (that was for the guage cluster) then you get quoted 12 hours labor......damn warranty came in handy on that sentra!!!

I may have considered it, but I planned on severely modding (and therefore voiding applicable warranty work on said modded areas).

Peace of mind is priceless; you can certainly drive a little more comfortable knowing you are covered for such a long time.

You did pay for those repairs when you plunked down cash for the warranty( or you financed the warranty with the sentra which makes it even more expensive ).

But for every one of you who actually used your warranty, there are countless others, like myself, who never got their money's worth. They take the money you give them up front, invest the money, and pay off those who actually need warranty work. They still come out ahead. We can do the same thing with our money instead of giving it to a large corporation for "peace of mind". They are playing on our fears.

Not to mention that you risk losing the the warranty if you even tinker with your car such as adding some mods and then you lose your entire investment in the warranty.

Certainly they come out ahead, otherwise they wouldn't offer it. But it's like insurance just in case... That's what I meant by peace of mind.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Nissan Warranty Who's got it?

yes i did pay for the warranty when i financed the car....but since I financed with the credit union....I am only charged interest on the day that the payment is taken (na na na na)

for the sentra the warranty was cheaper and for me it did work out cheaper in the end....especially when I paid the car off early and still had the ability to make repairs under the warranty (6 years or 100,000 miles which ever comes first)

the sticker price of the sentra was 13k i plopped down 2k and after takes and tags and the warranty the car was 12,100k....and since i financed through the credit union the payments were biweekly, i had a low interest rate and they only charge interest on the day of the payment for the amount of the payment (don't ask me why cause I ain't complaining...its a good deal for me)

On my 2000SE which I sold, I had it. I got the 75,0000 mile for about $800. When I sold the car, I got a full refund , just because I had 20K miles on the car at that time.

I got the extended warranty but told them I wouldn't pat $1500.

I got it for $900 (that's what I pd for the extended on my Expedition).
I had one on my '96 and it saved my ***! Major engin work needed at 65K - all covered by the warranty. I agree w/ the analogy to life insurance. Most people don't use it so they make a huge profit, but you don't want to be w/o it if the **** hits the han after the normal warranty.

I've owned 7 cars both new and used and I have never needed major engine work even after over 100,000 miles. What happened to your car?

I'm just suggesting that you could self-insure yourself instead of buying a warranty. Put the $1000, or $1500, or whatever they charge in a some safe investment earning modest interest, add to it over time by making small payments to the fund while your car is still covered my the manufacturer's initial warranty, and use that money for your repairs when the car's manufacturer's warranty runs out. Then if you never need to use the money you will have a nice little nest egg.

Self insurance may not work to those who need major engine work on your cars that might cost many thousands of dollars but to cover alternators, water pumps, timing chains, etc., self-insurance works real well.

From the post's it seems that those who keep there cars for a long time or put a lot of miles on there car, would be better off with the extended warranty, but those who don't, really don't need it. I didn't get the extended warranty b/c I don't plan on putting over 50,000 on my car.. I plan on getting a new car next year so it would have be a waste of money to get the warranty, in my case...

PS.. Don't you just love it when ms.thickness posts

I've had 8 cars new and used and only had 2 major issues come up near the end. In the '96 the timing belt went and screwed the internals up - not much in parts but the labor was almos $1500. THey didn't know how bad it was till they got in - I would've just replaced the engine in hindsight. It was never the same again.

I had a '91 Pathfinder that had 80K when the tranny went. That was expensive as well. I used to tow a 3800lb camper , had the cooler and everything, but the poor little V-6 couldn't handle the berkshires every weekend. Unfortunately, did not have the extended on that one.

I think iit's true if you can put some aside for the future repairs but like the man said, I'd probably blow it on a cruise or something.

awwwww....it's the sig isn't it!!!

actually that is another good point...if you don't plan on keeping the car don't buy the warranty

when I buy a car its till death do us part...as a matter of fact if the sentra had not been totalled I wouldn't even be in this forum!!!

when the sentra was totalled I actually received money back from the warranty company because the milage was under and I also had 2 years left on it(and used it wisely by purchasing the dash kit for the max)

if you put a LOT of milage on the car then the warranty is something that i think you should pass on because you will reach the maximum milage rather quickly and have no problems with the engine

but ultimately...the decision is up to the guy who started this thread!!!

whatever you decide to do make sure that you make your money work for you!!!

Sig?? What sig?? oh that one

Good point, its like being in a relationship.. If you plan on being committed like Ms.thickness, get the ring (warranty), if not, don't get it...
