I had the chance to manually shift my automatic. This is my results:
To hit redline in first gear, I had to shift into "2" at 6,100rpm's. But go over that, and it will hit its fuel cut off. Then in second, I could shift at 6,400rpm's and it would shift at 6,550rpm's.

My question is, Since I have to shift at 6,100rpm's in first gear so I won't hit the fuel cut off and not in other gears, does this mean that my transmission has a bad TCM?
My car, when driven half throttle gets sorta mushy shifting from 1st-2nd and It usually ends up at 4,500rpm's before shifting into second gear and from 3,500-4,500rpm's, you feel virtually no power.

I have gone to the dealer and asked them about this and mention of a TCM out for this, but the dealer has no clue about this.

Shoulda got a stick or at least got a Maxima built after May 00' :-(...Mine was built on Jan 00'

sounds about right to me. (normal) You might have to get the TCM replaced if you notice the car hanging from 1st to 2nd. And I'm talking about letting the tranny shifting on its own.

I went to my nissan dealer today and I got them to install a new tcm no questions asked. they didn't even take the car out for a ride. I couldn't believe it. I just made sure that they knew that I knew that there was a problem with the 2k and I had seen the service bulletin that is sent to all nissan dealers. so maybe you should try going and getting a new one just for ****s and grins, you know.

I think that it is normal to have to shift a bit earlier for 1'st gear. I think the transmission is also programmed that way. If you let it shift by itself, you will notice the 1->2 shift occurring at an earlier rpm point than the other shifts. The TCM has to do with the auto shifting by itself.

Print out the list of NHTSA for 2000 Maxima's, hightlight the TCM one, take it to the dealer, show it to them, and say you are experiencing that problem with it shifting from 1st to 2nd. Chances are, they won't give you any lip. I have noticed if you act like you know what you are talking about, and have "official" documentation to back it up, they won't say much. Most owner's of vehicles won't go that far: they'll wait for a full-blown recall notice to come in the mail before investigating on their own any potential, known issues. It shows you are on top of things and you probably won't take "we can't find anything wrong" as an answer. You have to be persistent and have confidence. You'd be surprised how far it gets you at the dealership.

Better than printing up the NHTSA list...
