SES Light After PR CAI Adjustment

SES Light After PR CAI Adjustment
I installed my PR CAI a little while ago, but kept hearing a knocking sound. So finally after being annoyed to all get-out, I went under the hood to fix it last night. I found the problem, and was able to fix it (the lower pipe needed to be rotated a little towards the front of the car). But when I went to start the car back up, it died. The SES light came on, so I was like GRRRR.... I unplugged the negative battery cable last night and left it that way until today. I went out to reconnect the cable, and now the SES light is off (for now), but the car won't remain started. It starts, then idles down from 1000 to 800 to 600 to 400 to off. Rinsing and repeat produced the same effect. If there is a SES code, I have no way to get the car anywhere to get it read... is there anything to check before I have to put the stock airbox back in?

Ok, update. I got an ODB-II scanner and read the code for the SES light. It was P0113. So I turned off the car, removed the MAF sensor connector, and turned the engine on. This caused the ECU to read an error. I erased the code, turned off the engine, reconnected the MAF sensor wire, and turned the engine back on. Now the car actually stays started. But I continue to get code P1102, which is the MAF sensor according to the ESM. I tried to reset it, but the light is still on, and the car is limited to the 2400 RPMs. Any suggestions?

Dunno about suggesstions, but I get the SES light after installing a Frankencar intake. I've reset it acouple of times, but it keeps coming back. I went to Autozone to have the code read, but they couldn't get anything to read. Later I heard that the auto manufacturers are only releasing some of the codes for the aftermarket code readers, and that for some codes you need to go to the dealer to have them read. I guess I should put the stock airbox in and have that done. Anyone else have that problem?

It does sound like your MAF went bad. Since this topic is so widely discussed, do you specifically remember doing anything out of the ordinary to the MAF that may have caused this, like bumping it, etc? One of the popular speculations is that excess vibration is what's causing MAF failures. When you heard the knocking, what area was it coming from? Was it possible the knocking was causing lots of jarring to the MAF?
Anyway, sorry about your MAF. I assume you have a hole in the fender from the intake? I hope you can get it replaced under warranty.

My plan is to remove the CAI, hook up the air filter directly to the MAF, and see what happens. If that fails, then I will return to the stock intake and see what happens. I called my dealer and they WILL replace it, since they did work on the car on Friday. The service rep loves me and my car, and told me that he'd find a way to get it covered, but I'd have to have the stock intake on the car in order for it to be covered. I will post an update when I have one.

Update: It was the MAF. I reinstalled the stock setup and took it back to the dealer. The tech noticed that the CAI was no longer installed, and the dealer refused to fix it under warranty. So I took the car to another dealer and had it serviced there. Here's the funny thing... I had the Transverse Link recall done on Friday, and the dealer where I went to get the MAF fixed performed the recall as well. Just goes to show the level of communication between dealers.

Additional Update: I talked to Courtsey Nissan's Parts Department. It seems that the sensor itself is available (the part that is held in by the 2 torx screws). This was posted sometime before here on the .org, but I thought that I'd keep everyone updated as to what the part is, does it work, etc. I ordered 2 of them and they should take about a week or so to arrive. Once I get them in and verify that they are correct for a 2002/2003, I'll post the link to the forum where I got the info from, as well as the part number. If the part works, I'll always keep an extra one on-hand, so that I can replace it if it goes bad again. The part is well under $100 for .org members.
I am rescheduling my Dyno run for another time, since I am straight stock as far as intake goes.

A nice end to a long and horrible story. The parts that I ordered from Courtesy are NOT compatible with the 2002+. They do not contain the 5th wire nor the temperature sensor in them. They only contain the MAF itself. The part number for the 2000-2001 MAF sensor itself is "22680-AD210". That number WILL NOT work on a 2002+. I returned the parts to Courtesy. After doing an extensive search, I found that you have to buy the whole assembly. That is until Nissan gets enough replacements of a $250+ plastic housing that they decide to make the MAF sensor itself have a seperate part number from the housing. But until then, you MUST buy the WHOLE housing for a 2002+.
Now... the PRCAI is back in. I got another dealer in the area to grab a MAF off a 2003. The MAF part number that the dealer put in is "22680-AM600".
