Feel like a dumb a$$. Fuel cut TSB....

Ok, its been almost 3 years and 38,000 miles with my 00'SE 5 spd. But i have never done the fuel cut TSB. I think my stupid 1st gear throttle release buck-pull runs and sometimes non-linear throttle response is directly related to this TSB. I often heard of a knocking like sound when im going from a dead stop or from a low speed. I heard about this TSB 2 years ago from here, but never bothered to do it. Because unless in heavy traffic, i can still live with it. But after seeing so many happy campers that did it, im thinking im a real stupid a$$, i should of done it long time ago. But now the warranty is over and im about to sell the car....etc etc.

Also in the almost 3 years i had this thing i seldom put anything below 91 octane, but this past weekend i put in 89. And after 30 miles i can hear my engine knocking while accerlerating up a hill, and it continues to make the dreaded knocking noise several more times under acceleration. Now didnt Nissan require only 87octane on this thing?? Im almost sure that stupid fuel cut TSB has something to do with this, but im too lazy to deal with it. I filled it up with 91 next and everything was ok again, but im that maxima that still does that lame a$$ buck-pulls in first gear in traffic.

If I'm not mistaken, these TSB's can be performed at any time and aren't tied to warranty service. I could be wrong though, hopefully somebody will be able to confirm or deny that.

As for fuel, the VQ needs 91. Now you *should* be able to put in a lesser grade. The knock sensor will detect the onset of knock and rollback timing in the engine to prevent it, so it looks like something is wrong with your knock sensor as well. Fuel-cut TSB has nothing to do with this, though.

But if you're getting ready to sell the car, why bother?

Your knock problem is related to another TSB, bad coils. New cars don't knock! And if someone tells you it is the gas, they are full of shiit (classic Nissan service department excuse). Actual performance on the car will increase once the coils are replaced.

Actually nobody told me that the car was knocking. I noticed it AFTER the 89 gas. Didnt nissan require only 87 gas and recommends 91 for better performance??? Atleast thats what it says on my fuel door. Again, like the coils, i never recieve these notices of TSBs from the dealer or Nissan, i knew thru u guys!
