Sunroof problem

Anyone have sunroof opening/closing problems? This just started on my 2k SE after working PERFECTLY since bought new. You go to slide it all the way open bu sliding the switch all the way back for the one touch opening function, and it moves about 3 inches and stops. It will open all the way, just 3 inches or so at a time. Same for closing also. Weird thing is I used it yesterday and it worked perfectly...what gives? The search didnt yeild anything useful.

Dunno, but I want to point out to people this is 2K not a 2K2....we dont have the electronic gizmo reset that the 2K2 can do.

Re: Sunroof problem

You need a new motor, bro. NO, you can't reset it. Mines the same way. Either live w/ it or have a new motor installed. If you get the new motor, I'd have the dealer install it. Let THEM be resposible for ripping your $1,000 headliner.

I have an estimate in my car. I believe it's $298.

What u can try before going to the dealer is disconnecting the batery and leaving it off for about 20 minutes then reconnect then trying it. If problem persist then you have no choice to go to the dealer and let them take care of it.

Thanks nyc...I will give that a try this weekend. Sure is some weird arze wiring in those things if it fixes it...Now that you mention it, I may have seen something like this in the .org a while ago...I wonder if it just "happens" or could the 98 degree weather/70 per cent humidity was a contributing factor

It just happens. This has been a problem for several of us. Try the battery thing, and let us know if it works. I'm all for saving 300 bones.

He he...tech speak! No, in the 2K2+ there is a procedure that "resets" the sunroof system. It is listed in the manual.

I guess (read:assume) there is more electronics involved for all the "1 push" functionality. My wifes Focus has all that crap and they also list a procedure to reset the sunroof system. Apparently it does not take much to upset/confuse these systems.

Pretty much same thing happened to my 2kSE this morning. Finally a sunny day after few weeks of cold winter, and I wanted to get the roof open, but to my surprise it opened only about one inch at a time and I had to press the button again and again to open it all the way. another thing is that both buttons now do exactly the same job of opening the roof all the way and back to closing it and back to moving it to open up.
So, naturally, the first chance I get - I get on the maxima.org looking for answers. A little search, and I see this thread. So I'tried to disconnect the battery for 5 seconds and connect it back. Then do the "reset" described in a different thread, by turning the ignition to "ON", closing the roof, pushing the up button and waiting for the sunroof motor "bump", and the damn thing works again the way it should!
Thanks all.

BTW, more and more to me it seems like, the first thing that we should do if there is something strange happening to the car, is to disconnect the battery and reset the ECU. If that does not help, then look for answers on the .ORG

Yup, worked perfectly for me too...and yea, seems like most electronic functions go thru the computer. definitely a good place to start in your diagnosis.
