Clanking noise from left front wheel???
I just noticed that when I pull away slowly or make a turn turn I hear something clanking from my right wheel well. Sounds like a piece of metal hitting another piece of metal. It's not loud but noticeable. But when I'm driving normaly the noise goes away. Anyone ever have this problem?

Re: Clanking noise from left front wheel???
this happens to my car as well, mostly when i'm backing out or something, so i'm turning the wheel slowly. at first, i thought it may have been the transverse link recall (2k2), but it did not apply to my particular vehicle. i brought it to the dealer anyway, and he gave me some BS answer...said that it was the wheel bearing resetting itself

My Gen 4 did that, my Gen 5 does it as well,
always when starting to move forward after backing up...it sounds like a muted, medium-pitch 'gronk' rather than a thump...I gave up on this as endemic to the Max...

PCGuRu2K, did you check to see if your vehicle is listed in the Tranverse Link (lower control arm) recall? Check NISSAN's site. About 90,000 Maximas were affected (late 2001s through early to mid 2002s).

I finally figured out what the problem was.. THe clanking noise was coming from a screw that fell off my valve stem. It was flying around inside the wheel when I go from a roll. Had to take the tire out to the shop and take off the wheel. Then rescrew back the locking screw onto the valve cover.

My car just started making that noise two days ago, from the front right wheel as well, I was pretty scared, I thought it was the axle, but I haven't even done a burnout with my Max yet.
Should I mention it to Nissan when I go in for service?
Also, my driver side front speaker goes out sometimes, and if I go over a bump it starts working again, Will that be covered under warranty?
I have a 2k2 SE 6 SPD

PCGuRu2K, hope this helps...
I went to their site at www.nissandriven.com and pulled out the following info (affects 67,000 and not 90,000 vehicles):
2001-2002 Maxima Transverse Link Replacement
Applies to 2001 Maxima, the following Vehicle Identification Number Ranges:
JN1CA31A*1T113697 - 113815;
JN1CA31A*1T319553 - 320204;
JN1CA31D*1T632735 - 633104;
JN1CA31D*1T841199 - 843066.
Applies to 2002 Maxima, the following Vehicle Identification Number Ranges:
JN1DA31A*2T000011 - 002829;
JN1DA31A*2T300022 - 317004;
JN1DA31D*2T200011 - 207916;
JN1DA31D*2T400020 - 442089.
The number of vehicles potentially affected is approximately 67,000.
Please review the disclaimer located at the bottom of this page for more instruction.
Reason for Recall
One of the parts of the front suspension on your vehicle which is called the transverse link may break where it is mounted to the frame. This may cause a knocking sound and abnormal steering. This may result in difficulty controlling the vehicle which, if ignored, could cause a crash.
What Nissan Will Do
In order to prevent this incident from occurring, your Nissan dealer will replace the transverse links on the left and right sides with new ones. This free service should take about two hours to complete, but your Nissan dealer may require your vehicle for a longer period of time based upon their work schedule.
What You Should Do
Contact your Nissan dealer at your earliest convenience in order to arrange an appointment to have your vehicle repaired. If you notice a knocking sound from the front of your vehicle and/or abnormal steering, you should stop driving and contact your Nissan dealer to arrange to have the vehicle towed to the dealer for repair.
If the dealer fails, or is unable to make the necessary repairs free of charge, you may contact the National Consumer Affairs Office, Nissan North America, Inc. at P.O. Box 191, Gardena, California 90248-0191. The toll free number is 1-800-NISSAN1 (1-800-647-7261). If you reside in Hawaii, please call 1-808-836-0888.
You may also contact the Administrator of the National Highway Traffic SafetyAdministration, 400 Seventh Street, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20590 or call the toll-free Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.

BTW, mine was built in Dec '01 and was affected by this recall. Took mine in...about a 3 hour job (included a front end alignment).

My VIN isn't included on that list, but my car is showing me the same symptoms of the recall, so I just made an appointment, even if it isn't the Transverse Link, it's something else, so they have to fix it.

Well, what's the worst thing that can happen from this recall thing, my car only started showing symptoms of it on Saturday, but my VIN # is not included in the recall list.
I scheduled my appointment for friday, but I need to know whether or not it's safe to be driving my car, I won't be pushing it for sure. But I don't want my whole suspension to come apart at 60 mph or so.
Advice needed, is my car part of the recall?Almost everytime I take off, it makes a little clunk in the right wheel or wheel area, specially when I'm turning right and taking off.
