How to tell if it's a GXE/GLE/SE?

How to tell if it's a GXE/GLE/SE?
I'm looking at buying a 2000 Maxima and I was told that it is a SE model. It does not have the SE badge that I have seen on several cars. When I run the VIN on Carfax it comes up : 2000 Nissan Maxima GLE/GXE/SE. Any ideas on how to verify exactly what it is? Thanks.

The SE trim comes w/ a spoiler, manual climate control (some SE's come w/ leather)...
The Gle trim comes w/ wood trim, leather seats, bose stereo, and automatic climate control
The Gxe trim comes w/ pretty much everything basic - cloth seats, nissan radio....*there is no badge on a GXE*
*Someone pls. correct me if I may be wrong..Thank You*
Hope this helps..

I suppose you could be real tricky, but don't all SEs come with white guages? Those are damn hard to fake because the connections are different on the GXE/GLE and you'd get a new odo if you switched em out. Also the GXE has the full plastic wheel I believe, other than that, you can pretty much cover the rest up, wheels, exhaust finisher, floor mats, spoiler, etc.
I would say guages is the measure.
Any confirmation?

Here is the simpliest way to tell. If the outside door handles are chrome then it is either a GXE or GLE. If the door handles are chrome with leather and bose it's a GLE. If the door handles are chrome and the interior is cloth it a GXE.
If the door handles are body color guess what it is a SE and it better have a spoiler or it might have been in a rear end accident.

It has the factory rear spoiler and it has the chrome door handles, cloth interior, standard heating/cooling controls. Does anyone know if there is a definitive answer within the VIN? Can they run the VIN and the local dealership and tell me?

It appears to be a factory spoiler and the car has plain (ugly) 16" alloy wheels. They look like the wheels on a buick lesabre. I'm going to call the local dealership first thing in the morning. Thanks for all the help.

I'd be carefull
It sounds as if the person selling the vehicle may not be very honest. I would be carefull with this car unless you know the person selling it is trustworthy (ie afriend of yours)and may just be mistaken about the model.

Sounds to me like a GXE, I had a 2000 GXE. The roof is aftermarket, it wasn't available, nor is it currently available on a GXE. Another way to tell is the seats, the GXE has a seat that is kinda funny, the SE has almost a suade feel to it. The GXE is a good car and a great base for mods if you want to spend the money. If you are interested in handling and performance but don't want to put a lot into the suspension, then start with a SE, IMO. Don't know if you have ever had a max or not, don't worry a GXE isn't gonna wallow around like an Accord or Camry, but the SE is just a lot better, the ride is a lot rougher though. Have fun, they are all great cars and welcome to the org.

2000 SE has this vs. GXE (Visually from outside)
-16" 5 spoke rims
-17" 6 spoke rims (optional)
-Chromeless grill
-Black out taillights
-Black MAXIMA/SE badges
-Body color door handles
-Two diagonal metal brace bars behind the grill
-Fog lights
-Sunroof (Optional)
-One retangular exhaust tip surrounding twin round tips.
But a GXE owner could easily install these on his/her own car.
