The bottom part about rigging an election is obviously what Gore intended to do, but he just happened to have the wrong friends (Democrats) that wouldnt let it go. As for speed, I dont drive that fast so I cant answer, Id like to live on earth a little longer and hang out with my dog.

 

Definitely luck. i did something similar when I was a jarhead in Japan. A friend had a small (275cc??)Yamaha 2 stroke triple and I asked him to take a ride. I had driven bikes for a few years, but nothing radical. There were a bunch of guys there so I thought I'd show off a little and try to do a burnout. I had never driven a 2 stroke before, so I didn't realize how much torque they have. I revved the engine to close to red-line and dropped the clutch. I did a wheelie almost like that and my hat flew off and I lucked out and came down okay. I wasn't even wearing a helmet because I wasn't expecting much from such a small engine. I then just turned around and drove back to the group as if I intended to do that. I got off the bike and went in to the restroom to clean the s*#$ out of my pants. Those guys thought I was a BAD-*** driver and I never told them otherwise.

You guys are all lucky. My car wouldn't budge 124mph. But I did have 3, including me, on board. Acceleration is down right Slowwwww when the car shifts to 3rd gear

 

I thought there was a speed governor that limited top end to 143 on the new SEs. Heard it was based on your tire rating. Did you guys override this governor? How do you do it?

 

I think only the Automatics get a Limter. GXE's with C and C and GLE's are limited to 125mph (?) but the SE automatic is limited to 131mph. This car is capable of speeds higher than 143mph as Nissan claims. The 5speed Maxima doesn't have a Limter. Their V-rated Bridgestone's are capable of 149mph.

I've had mine over 145 twice...I've added the Stillen Hi-Flow and this was on a flat road with no wind.

 

GLE's can go 132 as well in auto form, not just the SE's.

 

on a fairly cool night last month after 12 midnight I chased down a friends CLK430 at over 140MPH in my 2K1 black SE. About this limiter on automatics, I think each car may have it's own set of characteristics because if not then I should have cut off at around 130MPH. My auto did came stock off the truck with the VR Bridestones.

Thats a funny story! I agree it was pure luck because he got it way too high!

 

im jealous! 124 was all i could get. that was on the 401 in canada shortly after way too late to be driving, and before way too early to be up! a crx came up on me quick as i was movin about 85-90, so i jumped on it and after 110, it took for ever to hit the 124! we ran like that for a while, then he pulled over to the left, with smoke commin out of the car...probably burned the 4banger up running high rrrrrrrrrs! just cant keep with the stunning speed of a governed max se! how can we get ours to run 152? jim wolf tech. has the ecu/ or can build or customize one for you.

On a trip back from Vegas, I had the opportunity to run the car flat out for fifteen minutes. It would not go above 140-145 mph. There was no limiter, it was flat out for the car. I'm sorry, but unless you guys are running with some pretty major mods, 155+mph is just not possible, IMHO. The car was rock solid by the way...

 

Depending on what gas you are using you top speed will vary noticibly, >10MPH between regular(87) and super premium(94). This is in part because the the engine computer will retard the ignition timing based on the data from the knock sensor, and with the worst quality gas you may loose 10-15% engine performance just because of this.

This is most noticible in small 4 cylinder cars (a Corolla), try putting in 94 gas and floor it, then pun in 87 gas and floor it ... big difference.
