Typical nightmare experience, I picked up my SE last night (new car, not a demo) on the way home I got the idiot light "Service Engine Soon", today after a frustration of the service dept not wanting to take me today I finally found out I have a problem with a By-Pass hose for the EGR Valve (something to do with the emmisions).

I'm looking for comments,
- Is this a start of a larger problem
- Do I have any recourse to return this car (I live in New Jersey)
- How big of a job is this to fix (the dealer said 1.5 hours)

It doesn't sound like a big problem. I doubt you would be able to simply return the car. Depending on the lemon laws in your state, you may have some recourse if the problem returns after repeated repairs. Here in MD, if you take the car back to the dealer for the same problem three times, you can file for the dealer to buy it back.

I would prolly be pissed that my brand new $20+k car had a prob. the first day..

However
#1-> it's not major, because it did not break down completely... look at the bright side.!!

#2-> you have the same 3 year / 36,000 warrenty either way (w/ more for powertrain)

#3 -> If you ask me, that "Service Engine Soon Light" is a bit sensitive..

#4-> You have to look into NJ lemon laws.. there's some NJ specific warrenty information in one of the booklets you should have recieved with the car, but maybe a trip to your library is in order..

Where in NJ did you buy it??

Hmm... i have a rough idea of where that is in Wayne..

I hate to say this, but I doubt it's in anyway the dealer's fault... Seems to me like the Nissan God's just weren't looking favorably upon you that day..
