Anyone Have A Whistler 1770 Radar Detector?

I am thinking of buying a radar detector and was curious if anyone had an opinion on this one.

My general opinion on radar detrectors is that they suck because cops (around my way anyway) just point and shoot you with the radar gun. By the time radar detectors pick you up, you're caught already.

I hear ya. That's why I'm only looking to spend $130 or so. If they want me bad enough, they'll get me.

The Bel's are really great on the highway, but for city use, it picks up way to much garbage. As for the Whistler, I would stay away from them. I had one a few years back and the damn thing picked up the radar at the last second. If you want something cheap and decent, try a Cobra.

i have a whistler, im not sure if its that same model, but with the 2 year warrentee it was only $75. it works rather well, i was suprised. my friend bought a $160 cobra and we tested them and mine works just as well and is simpler.

***Cheap, or inexpensive? I only ask because there is a big difference? From internet searches I've done, they seem to rate pretty good.

Yeah. That's what I'll do. I'll spend $400 on a RADAR DETECTOR.

I have a Whistler 1660. I believe it's a similar model: SWS, Text and Talk, etc...

It's great for Ka band stuff, like most local police. It's terrible at Lidar and Laser, but then again most are. In fact Laser doesn't seem to go off unless it's a direct hit. I don't think I've ever been hit with X, so I always use it in city mode.

Before this I had a Bel 906 and it didn't seem to have a very wide angle for Ka band. It was actually more sensitive (straight on) but had a terrible time picking up troopers that were at angles greater than about 45 degrees. The 1660 I have does a markedly better job.

It is of course no V1, but it can help. I got mine for $89 at best buy and I'd bet if they still make them they're even cheaper now.

Get a Phaser

Get a radar jammer then get a radar detector. The phaser is a good jammer. The valentine one is a good detector. the jammer will save your *** for a bit while the detector tells you the cops there. That way you have time to slow down and avoid the ticket.

i agree. don't waste your money on anything less than V1 or 8500. from my research, jammers DO NOT work.
