Help me with Redline Tranny Fluid...

Hey guys,

1)Do any of you 2k2 owners out there use Redline tranny fluid on your auto trannies?

2)Is there any concern with warranty problems down the road?

3)Which one is the best for a 2k2 Max auto?

4)And finally, how tough is this swap to do yourself??? Thanks for your help...

I think I can help u on this one. If just drain the tranny, it shouldnt be that hard. But if u want to flush the tranny, u need some kind of machine to flush everything out of the tranny, torque convertor, etc.....and if u want to do a swap, I would do a flush, I dunno if we should mix synthetic ATF with regular nissan.

I have a 2k gle with 38k miles. Redline is an excellent product, but they will not warranty the trans fluid any longer than the nissan atf.
Nissan ATF will not last much past 30k , 37.5K max, although they are vague about the change interval.

I put in Amsoil ATF at 33k and will do a test on it after 30k miles of service. Amsoil ATF is designed to last up to 3 times as long as conventional fluid.

As for changing it, I found an import specialist with a T-Tech exchanger to do it for $70.00.

...Cool man, thanks. You got a guy to do it for $70 and that included fluid and flush and fill??? That sounds like a pretty good deal. As for the performance, do you feel that it helped your tranny at all???

The 70 bucks was for the labor and disposal. If you can find a decent Jiffy Lube, they will use your choice of synthetic fluid for 50-60 bucks.

As for performance, not really different. I could feel some slipping when the Nissan ATF got over 30k miles. It definately does not slip with the change to Amsoil ATF.

The reason I went with Amsoil is because I know that it will last at least 60k miles if not 90k miles and they stand behind it. Redline is a great product, but does not recommend going over the Nissan rec. interval.

Amsoil was the best value proposition for me. There are a couple of .org members that will sell Amsoil products to you at discount.

As for changing the fluid now, I would wait until 30k miles since the Nissan ATF will easily last that long.

Matt,

I did this about 5K miles ago. The transmission definitely shifts smoother, especially in the hear during rushhour. I did not pay for the 'flush' as it was $100 just for the labor. So, I will just drain and fill again in about 10K more miles. This is more economic, in my opinion, and it is the same results of one flush. Besides, NO place in my part of Dallas carries Redline so they rape you on the price of labor when you bring in your own fluid. Just an FYI

What are you up to this weekend? Staying in town?

I just got mine flushed today at a valvaline quick lube. They charged me $60 to do it with my Amsoil ATF. They looked at me funny because I only have 5800 miles on the car. The car was shifting a tad rough when ran hard. There is a noticeable difference in the shifting, but don't expect a mountain of difference. My gears shift more smoothly now.

...Thanks. I am thinking about doing this just cause my tranny is kinda fussy sometimes in the heat. As for this weekend, my wife and I are going to a Texas A&M football game Sat. night and then meeting my family at a beachhouse...
