Replacing the cat with a straight pipe

Will it actually help me out? I put it on yesterday which only took 10 mins to do. There is no difference in sound. I thought there would be a little difference in sound but I guessed wrong. My only performance mod is a CAI. So can someone just help me out with this question. Thanks

Chris

You tell us, Chris. Does it feel like replacing the cat with a test pipe made a difference?

When I did this, I noticed a bit more gain on the top end.

straight pipe

It prolly makes a bit more power with the cat off. You would notice it more with a catback (especially the noise I suspect).

Well I seriously dont know if it helped or not. I know that it would be louder with the GReddy that I will most likely be getting soon. But other then that I havent driven it on the freeway yet so Ill see tomorrow or Wed.

Not worth it if you don't have force induction. 5th gen maximas came with very efficient Cats already!

I just replaced the straight pipe with metallic Cat from Warpspeed.!

Would replacing the cat with a straight pipe make the exaust smell bad? If you have to go for emission tests are you gonna swap it out with the stock cat?

Well you definetely not passing any type of emmisions with a Straight Pipe.

It will not make it smell bad, I have done some heavy runs with my setup and never had a bad smell experience yet.

gotta becareful alot of times when ppl run with straight pipes or high flow cats the o2 sensor burns out (not immediately, but over time while others dont' have this problem) ca cats are basically hi flo.

Cant have that problem on a Cali spec car since the last O2 sensors are in the Ypipe, nothing after that.

So then how does the ECU know when the main cat malfunctions in a CA/NLEV-spec Maxima?

Never I guess, that's why it is cool for CA emission guys to have straight pipes and not us (fed emissions)

But they had a TSB regarding P4020 error code for Cali emission guys, how does that work? Since there is no o2 sensor behind the Cat????

Anyone?
