why do some aftermarkets stores list 2 different rotors for the 2000 Maxima--early model and late model, while other stores only list one for the 2000 year? Are there differences?

 

Never seen that before. All the 2000-2001 have the same size rotors for the front. Only the 95-99 are different in the front, but the rear is the same for 95-2001.

A friend of mine, who is a mechanic, asked me for the manufacturing date of my 2001 Maxima before I had brake service performed last week. This was because of the split-year issue you brought up. Supposedly, Nissan did change some things (probably small) regarding the brake system from their original spec. for the 2000 and/or 2001 Maximas, so early 5th generation owners might want to double-check on this stuff with their local shops.

My Maxima was made on 9/00 (just check the sticker next to the driver-side seat), and I was ordering Brembo rotors and Bendix Import Quiet brakes.
