Buzzing When Turned On

When I turn the key to start my car, the engine turns on but there is a slightly loud buzzing noise for about 3-4 seconds. If I turn the key just a little bit and stop before the engine has time to start it gets really loud.

My car didn't do this before, what do you think it could be?

that sound is the of 2 things. 1: front the engine mounts or 2 from the intake valve. my car was making that loud ticking noise with it too. Later I found out it was the engine mounts were bad, so they needed to be replaced. If u have warranty, bring it back to the dealership and have them run a test. There was a bulletin about that noise, but not a recall.

It's a electrical buzz... Sounds like a pump. Not an engine noise.

could it be the fuel pump? When you turn the key to the "ON" position you should hear the fuel pump go on for a few seconds...

Just realized it could also be the anti-lock brake high pressure resevoir pressurizing itself. Most newer cars do this and it is completely normal. It will happen when you turn on the ignition, regardless of whether or not you start the engine.
