Everyone won't need to do this mod. Sometime in the future after all the data has been extrapolated from Ethans project there will be a Maxima specific product on the market that will perform equally or better than the Z intake.

Wouldn't it be better to wait and see what Nissan does to the 3.5L motor that's going into the 6th gen Maxima? It's still going to be FWD and have the 3.5L VQ, but the engine will be tuned for more power (closer to Z level). Then you won't have to worry about the hood clearing.

Just like the 5th gen's manifold won't fit under a 4th gen hood, the 6th gen manifold might not fit under a 5th gen hood. And who wants to wait a year when you can be impatient now.

Isnt the 6th gen supposed to be a V8? I still think that sucks. 2003 max would be the last I'd buy personally...

Actually the only 2 cars ive ever owned have been maximas but thanks. For the gas-mileage I wouldnt want a V8 for my daily driver. I love the power to economy value of the V6. I wasnt saying they suck at all, but its just more money on gas and other things than I've got.

Why does everyone think that it's a V8? I mean everyone thinks that but they have no reason to...

I seriously doubt that Nissan will cram a V8 into the Altima FWD platform.

Thats why its supposed to be RWd also. The dealership told me that, but they may have no idea. They usually dont. Time will tell I guess.

I can't tell you how I know what I know, but the Gen 6 it's still a FWD V-6 car.

The front page of this website had the news release that said the car will be built off the Altima platform. Nissan wouldn't use a FWD platform to produce a V8 RWD car, when they have the FM (350Z, G35) platform and whatever the Q45/M45 platform is.

Oh well, not the thread to talk about it...

SVT did the same thing to the Contour over the regular Contour/Mystique/Mondeo/Cougar 2.5L V6. The differences account for 30hp.

1) Extrude Honed Upper Intake Manifold
2) Extrude Honed Lower Intake Manifold
3) Extrude Honed Heads
4) Hotter Cam
5) 19# injectors vs. 17# injectors
6) Higher Compression Pistons
7) ECU tweaks to account for the additional flow, higher flowing injectors and extra compression

In this case, I think the differences are all ECU and Intake ... you would be amazed how much stock ECU's are detuned from the factory. Porsche originally designed the 2.5L Duratec with Ford and it was making 250hp ... it was detuned for production to 170hp and SVT freed up another 30hp.

Maybe you did not notice but generaly I dont like to wait around for things to just un-fold in front of me. I like trying new things.. Who knows, maybe the new maxima manifolds will fit or maybe WSP or stillen will actually come out with a Y-pipe..

emax is an innovator i'll be doing the manifold if he gets some gains and i'll prolly be around to help him out when he does it.

also don't forget that y-pipe when you and me dyno tomorrow i'm gonna have a 2k2 y-pipe out soon
