Stolen HID
Stolen HID
Today I went down top a Pine Belt Nissan dealership wanted to see the new 350Z. Man that car was amzing. They had one in the service shop but anyway. I went there cause I was thinking about trading in my car for a 6 speed. I went to the back to check out some Maximas and there was about 30 of them missing HID. I was like damn what happened so I asked the lady that was helping me and she said they were stolen that they pop right out. I said damn someone made some money of that. Kind of got me thinking about my HID. What is the best way to protect them from getting stolen. Also can anyone give me some input if it's worth it for me to get a 6 speed. I got the 2002 GLE version with everything in it but the Nav. I still got a loan on it but I really want that manual. Can anybody give me some input as faras if i should do it.

Re: Stolen HID
my HIDs were stolen when i parked at a NJ mall. Super clean job, just sliced thru the plastic mounts. called 2 local dealers (Bergen, NJ) they said they had theives jumping over their barbed wired fences (with cameras) and stealing the HIDs (almost 20 cars) & some alloy wheels. around 15 were stolen from another dealer's lot. UNBELIEVABLE
mine were stolen 2 weeks b4 i traded the car in. now i have a '02 A4
what a relief to get rid of my Maxima, it was the worst car i've ever had. Japanese designs are prone to easy theft.
I just couldn't believe how easy it was for them to be stolen.
YOU WILL BE AMAZED. i've also heard that amatuer thieves will pry open the hood ( causing more damage)

I'm assuming you are in NY/NJ.
My bolts are replacements of the 10mm bolt that retains the housing. It will stop them from getting a working set of lights with the tabs, but will not prevent them from breaking the tabs. Depending on what part of the country you are in, different measures are needed. Around here the security bolts are enough. But in NY, you need to do several things at a minimum.
1. Better alarm with shock. You can add shock to the factory (CodeAlarm makes a module) or get an aftermarket, 2 way is better.
2. You'll need to reroute or protect the hood release cable.
3. HID bolts

You know thats a good idea Dixit. Making them prove legitimacy. Although it could be hard...Did you remove your instructions from the web? Just curious.

You know with all the newbies around it will be hard to see who is legit...we are providing security measures for our cars and then a newbie asks "How are you doing that" and will find a way to counter it. It really sucks...I don't mean to knowck any of the legit newbies that are out there taking full advantage of this site. Waht can we do, eh?
