Are you asking if you can put a 5th gen tranny in a 4th gen?

I haven't heard of anyone who has done this but I don't see why it wouldn't work. The 5th gen 3.0L engine block is the same as the 4th gen, so the bellhousing from either tranny should have the same bolt pattern. The only thing you will have to do is get a new halfshaft/driveshaft for one or both sides. The VLSD trannies have a different transmission housing to accomodate the larger differential. You may also need to replace one or both wheel bearings due to the different driveshafts.

If you find a competent mechanic and are willing to spend an additional $500 or so, you should have no problem installing the 5th gen VLSD tranny. But you would be the first that I'm aware of to do so.

5th gen tranny is stronger than 4th gen tranny per DAVEB's (Dave Burnette) research.

I needed to buy both shafts for the VLSD tranny (auto to manual conversion). Bling bling...
