Guess who else has tranny problems?
For those of us that may be considering a TL-S type next time if the 6th generation Maxima become too large or less sporty, there was an article in yesterday's LA Times saying that Honda Corp. is having a serious auto transmission problem, including those on their TL's, that may require a mass recall. Dealers have had to replace over 1600 trannys in the past year or so. It seems that when cruising above 65mph the tranny may suddenly shift back into second gear, causing the rpm limiter to be activated and inducing control problems. One owner, who took his car back to the dealer, was told that they would gladly replace the transmission, but due to a backlog of replacement trannys, he was 27th in line!
Well, that's it for me. Having replaced two trannys on my old 3rd gen Maxima, the TL is off my short list. If the new Max is just another big boat, an ‘04 Infiniti G35 is looking real good (if they'll sell one to an old flatulent like me).
