Cross over bracket on 2K2

What does the cross over bracket just aft of the converter do? It is attached with four bolts on each side. The body is one piece and looks like this serves no purpose. Anybody removed this bracket?

im pretty sure that its a support bracket for the exhaust if it ever happens to let loose. i took mine off because my cattman y pipe was hitting it. ive got longer bolts to back in. someone made the argument that it reduces chassis rigidity if its removed. im putting mine back on with longer bolts just in case.

Alotta ppl have written threads about this. Put it this way. That bracket is way bigger then that little one in the rear. If the purpose of that bracket is to just hold the y,cat incase it falls then why didn't they make a lil on like the rear. Small and light. This bracket has four bolts on both sides and is pretty decent in weight. I think it might be some stabilzer bar for the bottom. Or to keep the chassis tigter. I don't think you will tell a difference with it removed. If you do remove it let us know

I'm have a little problem with my B pipe rubbing this bracket too. I bought longer bolts and slipped two nuts on the body side to bring the bracket down about 5/8" and now it is fine.

Like you guys say, it is probably to eliminate flex of the body. Nissan probably put it on their high tech flex sensor and found a couple thousands of flex when corning at 140 mph so they decided it was necessary. I don't do that kind driving so I could probably leave it off but for now it is on and I have clearance. Thanks!
