How many have had bad motor mounts?

I did a search on this one and didn't get too many hits on motor mounts. Have you guys been having problems with these at all? I have a 2000 with 70k miles on it, and I'm wondering if I have a bad mount somewhere. If I hold my foot down between 1st and 2nd shift, I get a BAD thud - to me, seems more like motor mount than tranny really. I just haven't had time to even look at it yet.

the tranny can do that as well.. the thud I was having was like a neutral drop and it shook the whole car on the 1-2 shift.

i went into nissan to have them do the trans TSB and i remarked on how i was hearing a buzzing sound after i turned off the car. they said there was a tsb on the motor mounts and i asked how they could be buzzing and he said they were electronic. he said he would replace them for free even though i had not had any real problems with the motor bucking too far back even though it does more on this car than any others that i have owned/driven. they took around the whole day to do the trans and motor mounts work. if im not mistaken, there are either 3 or 4 motor mounts.

WOW....this concerns me. I have the same car, and I feel my mounts are going. Do you drive hard all the time? How did you know when they are gone? I have noticed way too much slop in the drive train! Since I installed my cattman Y, it seems to havbe gotten worse.

What are symptoms of motor mount damage? How can you diagnose?

Good question....I think we also need to visit the difference between completely blown mounts, and very tired mounts. I would tend to think that excessive engine movement may be one symptom, but.....

a good way to tell excessive engine movement is to pop the hood. put the car in drive. keep you foot on the brake and give it a little rev. you will notice if they are worn out by the movement of the engine. helps to have another person watch the motor for you and know what movement is tolerable and what is excessive.

With that, I can conclude that my mounts are definitly worn! 23000 miles and they are on there way out. Damn thing dances the jig!!! I never really noticed how much it moved, until I installed my Y-Pipe. that engine causes that exhaust to move way too much!

I know that mine were broken because they happened at the strip. Once they broke you would hear the motor rock back with accel. and forward on braking.

I think for the most part if you have some know how, this is a do-it-yourself job. I will let you know in a week or so, when I replace mine. I think what I am going to modify the stock mounts (there is a write up in the 4th gen stickies), because I want less engine movement without the harshness of the place race mounts.

Sorry to bring up and old thread, but help me out here.

When driving on the freeway, the car vibrates like mad, especially the steering wheel, when accelerating.

Would this be a bad motor mount? I'm not hearing any clunk noises when I gas it, but I have already tried the following:

4 new tires, mounted and balanced
rims checked out for bends
new passenger side axle

No luck - it just keeps getting worse.....

I noticed when putting it in "D" and hitting the gas and brake, the "front" of the engine does move up about 1 inch.

Anyone else had bad motor mounts and nasty vibration?

Please remember this vibration is ONLY when acellerating....not braking, not cruising.
