where do you mount your radar..

especially the V1...
mine, just on top of the rear view mirror and the concealed display right behind the steering wheel.

any effectiveness loss behind this OEM tinted glass?

any suggestion, I tried to keep it out of sight as much as possible.

thanks

Erwin

If the detector is legal in your state, don't worry about hiding it. There really wouldn't be any point because a cop won't pull you over for "having" one. I would mount it as close to the dash as possible while still being able to see clearly through the rear window. A clear sight through the rear window is key, so do not overlook this! I have had a V1 for over 3 years and I know how this baby works.

i believe the valentine website states that tint strips can hinder laser/lidar detection...also some tints contain metallic compounds which hinder radar detecting performance....

<Mount it underneath the mirror with velcro, works real good for me. Every cop I've talked to that pulled someone over who had a radar detector and saw it almost always gave them the ticket due to the fact that they premeditated the desire to speed. If you do get pulles over I would try to hide it and hopefully it wasnt seen while he was behind you.

Your tint should not affect the range of the V1

My V1 is mounted using the suction cups above and to the left of the rearview mirror, I tucked the wire under the trim all the way behind the trim along the top and down the left pillar and ran it into the fuse panel bottom left. You cannot see it from outside and you would have to stick your head in the car to see it. Cop probably would never know it was there. The tint strip doesn't affect sens as it still works better than my Bel 980 in my other vehicle. MUCH BETTER.

In Illinois, I was told by a state trooper that while it's legal to own a radar detector, it cannot be mounted anywhere in front of the driver. This means the dash & windshield. I have mine right above and to the left of the rearview mirror so cops can't see it. The tint has not reduced it's effectiveness.

Re: where do you mount your radar..

Best mount ever was in my 87 Pulsar SE.. my little Uniden sat on top of the passenger sun visor with no mounts, held by the squeeze between it and the cieling. Completely invisible, even to a car directly behind me. I think that car had no blue tint on the windshield.

These days I have a Passport Remote (SR1) mounted under the front bumper within the lower valence, so it's invisible.

The display is velcro'd in front of the dash on top of the steering wheel / ignition key area, in plain sight of the driver. If I park in a bad neighborhood or get pulled over, I can just yank it off and stick it UNDER the wheel. The black display unit also matches my black interior.

Expensive but worth it every time is saves my @$$.

Hardwire just above the rearview mirror, little more outta site, the factory tint strip doesn't affect reception. However, the close proximity to the roof (metal) limits your rear and side reception. Of course if you have your windows tinted with the "mirror" type tint, no matter how little, you will have no side or rear reception anyway.

That's what I did, and clear view from the rear to the radar so I assume my rear reception still at their best.
I have the concealed display right on top of the steering wheels column.

do you guys notice a high rate of false alarm in L logic?

thanks

Mine is hardwired directly behind the rear view mirror on the passenger's side. Sure I may lose some "rear" signals, but then again, they've already got me at that point. I mounted the suction cups in the actual tinted spot, with the radar hanging just below the tinted strip.

Advantages: No interference from the windsheild, but also no suction cups visible from the front of the car. If you look for the radar, you MAY see it. But if you aren't looking for it, you won't. I also did another thing... I taped over the display with electrical tape. I drive alot at night, and cops look for the little lights in people's windshields to see if they have radar. Tape over lights = no lights = no radar (in cop's mind). And the last advantage for this spot: in order for a cop (who's standing at my window) to see the radar, (s)he'd have to crouch. And when they do, all they'll see is the rearview mirror. The only way you'll see it is if you are on the passenger's side and crouching.

Disadvantages: Limited side/rear coverage. You are relying on the audio alerts only (since you can't see the display).

There is no radar detector better than your eyes. They are your primary instrument in detecting cops. Don't rely on a device to avoid a ticket. It's just a little extra help from time to time.

conceal display is the custom look. well the electrical tape is the cheaper option.

Of course I trust my eyes more.
