Oil Filters
yep, i know i could extend it for even 2k more miles but i get it for 3.99 a quart and i just sleep better at night. some or most may say its wasteful but its just one less thing to worry about.
True. Better safe than sorry.

Doesnt matter what oil you run (syn or not), you should do an oil test before running an extended drain. Your oil will be good for 12K miles but you might have other conditions which require a change... even at 3500. (yes, I know that means a need for better filtration but thats not always an option or convenient either).
for instance.. this is mobile1 and OEM filter. But its all short trip city driving. You see the low wear, thats all I care about

True you should do an analysis, but I don't and I have close to 100k on my motor with about 10k between changes (mostly highway) and I have had other high mile motors with the same change intervals. It's more of a laziness factor than financial
but I know the synth's will go the distance. When Mobil 1 was first introduced, they were touting 20K mile changes, but I think their lawyers nixed that, not their engineers

I would do the same thing.
