PIAA LED wedge blubs
I just picked up a pair for my GF's max, and she raves that they look awesome!!! in the daylight you can't see the bulbs at all since they're all white (inside the clear bumper lenses) but at night when they turn on they're all blue!!! very very nice

I forgot the brand of the ones I have. They're not the dim APC's, or the overly expensive JamStrait. They work pretty well though. Apparently if you use LEDs in your signals, they will blink faster. But in my clear bumper lights, it doesn't affect anything.

I have LED's in my clear side markers (amber/red) and door lights (white) from Midnight Moose . I used to have white 4-LED 194's in the license plate area, but one by one, the lil' LED's started going out and strobing in the process (can you say..TICKET?
).
The light dispersement on the Midnight Moose is not as direct as the 4-LED's. It's like they tried to designed it to work in reflector housings (diffuse the light rearward). A profile view would look like this:

So the white LED's from them did not work well in the license plate area, I ended up using PolarG's. I have to admit, the 4-LED's looked much better (crisper, brighter, more "high tech", if you will). But the amber and red LED's from them look very good at night. They look like you've placed regular bulbs in smoked lenses. Very deep red and amber. I'll try to put up some pics soon. During the day you can see a hint of yellow and red from the plastic LED mounts that emulate the 194 leads. And like any other LED, you really have a tough time seeing them in the day.
On their website, they actually used a 2k2 Max as a "model", using their LED's in the door clearance lights, the parking lights and a superwhite bulb in the high beams. As you can see (and I can attest), their LED is not very bright in the parking light housing (I guess their design for rear diffusion didn't work well, if that is what they were trying to achieve in the first place).

Hawks/Dave thanks for the info. I have the clears now with "red" 194 wedges that are just pink. I used two different kinds with little change. I have APC now, which are a little deeper but still too pink for my taste.
I think LEDs may be the way to go for me.
