Double sided adhesive..

has anyone had success removing any part of the body (not just emblems) that uses this stuff (whether or not other clips or fasteners are involved)? What was the technique?

This is specifically directed at DIY'ers, not taking the car to a shop.

Thanks!

He meant getting the actual parts off, not just the glue...... Such as the side door gaurd. It is secured with clips and double stick tape.

It is fairly hard to do the side door gaurd since you dont want to use a screwdriver to dent the door itself. It was meant more for when the car got into an accident and it was probably half off and they can replace it from there easily.

We use tape at the place I work that has adhesive on both sides and the prefered method of release is alcohol. You might try that.

A heat gun usually works very well for adhesives. It wouldn't hurt to try, just don't turn it up too high or leave it on one spot too long. I imagine it could get hot enough to cause damage if used improperly.

Good luck, hope it helps some.

Thought about the line, but way too many weird and tight contours (front lip).

I used it with fishing line but in your case you might want to use the line where you can and lots of goo gone to keep it from readhearing. Then soak the areas you can't use line on and start prying it off. Alcohol may help but be sure to use the goo gone once it has seperated because the alcohol will make the adhesive real sticky. Also try calling a body shop and see if they have any pointers.
Hope this helps.
