Help!!!! Torn Cv Boot
Help!!!! Torn Cv Boot
I was replacing the rotors and pads on my 2001 Max SE and I some how managed to slice open the outter CV Boot. What do I do now??? How do I change the CV Boot? Its the passenger side. I seems as though this is not going to be as easy as changing the rotors. Does anyone have any detailed instructions on how to do this?? Pictures would be appreciated. Thanks.
Re: Help!!!! Torn Cv Boot
I'd take it straight to the dealer. This is not a small thing to replace and it needs to be fixed right away. Driving with a torn boot will result in sand and gravel getting into the joint, which will cause the joint to fail.
I had a torn boot on my Mazda Protege and the only way I found out was the car started making a loud clunking sound when the front wheels were turned.
Try patching it temporarily with some tape or something and drive it to the dealer.

Fix It....
Agreed.
If memory serves, most fwd cars require removal of the drive axle to replace a CV boot. Depending on the age of your car and miles, you may want to consider doing both of them while you're at it.
It's not a cheap thing.
Depending on conditions, CV boots are good for 75k to 100k miles.
This is not catastrophic - but you should get this done as soon as possible to avoid further long and short term damage.
You don't HAVE to go to the Nissan dealer, BTW. Find a reputable repair shop if it suits you.
