Beware of the new Neon.

There's a new speedster on the horizon. Look out for the 03 Neon SRT-4. We might get them in the 1/4, but 0-60 in under 6 secs, whooaa mama!

Hey, it actually looks kind of interesting...

obviously not the same category as a Max, but hey...looks like a refreshing domestic attempt to play in the WRX kind of size/class...

and remember, Chrysler turbos have always been known for their ability to be tweaked...

not bad for about $20K.

Different Strokes I Guess....

I just can't see spending $20,000 on a car the size of a motorcycle. I can uderstand why people spend $200,000 on "super cars", but 20k on a Neon. Um, no.

damn its a turbo

c'mon guys.. fugly or not.. performance is performance and you have to respect a fast car.. its turbo'd which means that that little ***** with a chip will be showing 2k2 6spd maxima's its tail lights and you know mopar will have **** load of mods for it..

give the little f#cker some respect.. and don't call it domestic rice because it will smoke you..

Check out the actual interior specs, compared to say an Altima (or even a Max)...they are actually rather close (given the Neon's market segment)...

As for performance, externally quite often smaller is better!

they could ask why would you pay 26k for a brand new maxima that cost 6k less as soon as it leaves the lot

for 20k i would buy it.. thats going to be up there with the WRX with bang for the buck.. you better believe it.. i am not into domestics so i wouldn't even think of one.. **** of honda woke up or Nissan threw the SR20DET in the Spec V.. that would be something to talk about..

Domestic rice, or shall we say 'corn'?

I actually agree with Sprint, 'performance is performance'.

CRAP!!

You guys are starting to sound like the jerks we have seen recently from the Acura side of the tracks...dissing anything other than what they drive...

So it's a Neon, so it's a Dodge, it is still a stab by a DOMESTIC auto maker to put a car on the street that is not just a bunch of spoilers and bodykits but actually has some 'ooomph' to back it up.

If you think it is sad now, just wait until you are trounced by one...how sad does that make you??

Geez...for people who purport to be automotive supporters and appreciaters, it is amazing how little slack is cut when something other than the beloved hamburger puts a car on the road!

Wake up people, if we were more open minded around here, we would realize the domino effect of cars like this being released into the marketplace...now someone needs to 'one up' this Neon...maybe Nissan??

who cares how fast it is, its still a neon. which would you rather be seen in, a max or a neon? people hook up kias, but in the end their still kias. its still a crappy car no matter what you do to it.

you guys sound like a bunch of arrogant bastards.. you need to friggen respect performance.. you guys drive POS maximas.. they are f#cking maxima's and you have the nerve to look down on a Neon?

c'mon dude.. you guys are the first ones to flame guys who come on this board and say maxima's arn't ****. .and then throw up 1/4 mile numbers how a Maxima runs low 14's stock.. and look how you guys are acting now.. you guys are a bunch of little b!tches..

this neon is basically a lighter and faster 2nd Gen Eclipse GS-T .. GS-T's have been known to get up to low 12's on bolt-on's.. yeah.. a 12 second neon with minmal mods.. how the f#ck can you knock that? how can you? you guys f#cking disgust me..

I actually think it looks alot better than the previous version and it looks better than the WRX which is just plain ugly. It will do very well to whom it's marketed too and will most definately have dodge's aftermarket support. Looks like it'll come with RSB and FSB and a FSTB stock. Definately good price/performance car.

The reason you are probably getting flamed is because the people who like Maximas are thinking differently. We think of ourselves in the same class as the Acura TL-S, BMW 3 series and so on. Meaning, we prefer the luxury feeling, but also like the more mature looks of our sport sedans. We can compete with the rice racers, but feel distinguished doing so.

Well... if youre out picking on Neons, you deserve to have your a$$ handed to you by this thing.

Sure, I'll give Dodge some credit.. but just alittle.

Thats alot of displacement AND a turbo for ~205-215 hp. Whoop-dee friggen do.. its a factory turbo. Nothing earth shattering tech wise, its a factory tuner car. There isnt anything about it that really impresses me.. does it get 40mpg and do sub 6's? There are ALOT of things faster than a max.

And actually I think its a horrible idea. Do we really need a sub-6 sec econobox that the average high school kid can afford? no... I'm pretty sure this new Neon is Darwin at work.

I like the way Germans appoach terminal velocity, with lots of technology and safety to back it up. But Dodge is playing the marketing game.

This was posted in January by a member about the Neon... I'm not a Neon fan but I won't say it's slow with 220lbs of torque 2000rpm? and the aftermarket will love it.
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....t=prince+nismo

Looks like dodge is trying to show some muscle....

First seen - briefly -- at the Los Angeles auto show, Dodge's Neon SRT-4 is a production-ready racecar that threatens to stake a serious claim in the sport compact market. Priced just under $20,000, the SRT-4 boasts a 2.4-liter/205-horsepower turbocharged engine. Dodge claims a musclecar-worthy 5.9-second 0-60 mph time! Power is not all at the high-end, either, with 220 lb-ft of torque available at 2000 rpm. A complete package, the SRT-4 features aggressive fascias, dramatic spoiler, sport suspension, 17-inch wheels, large brakes, six-speaker AM/FM/CD stereo, leather Viper-style bucket seats, three-spoke steering wheel, power amenities, and air conditioning

Dodges are the cars that loose value more than anything. With their "savvy" marketing, and overproducing, these cars will be a bargain in just 2-3 years. You can buy a 4-5 year old car with decent mileage for under 5 grand. That value can not be beat with any Si, Prelude, Integra, WRX, etc. Good going, though.

Damn you guys have been busy for the last couple hours since I started this thread.

I just want to say that I think the Neon is a nice little affordable piece of work for Dodge. It'd be hard to consider a SpecV or a Corolla S or anything else in that price range.

Simply said, I drive a Max. ...but if I see a Neon SRT-4 lined up next to me, you can believe that I'll be prepared. I just didn't want you Maxima loving freaks to get caught off sleeping.
