Update on 2K2 with Noise over Bumps (long)
Update on 2K2 with Noise over Bumps (long)
To start this out...I am driving a 2K2 SE fully loaded (including Navi)
Ok everyone, here is the update that I have been experiencing on the noise that I have been hearing when going over bumps, etc. I originally that the noise was related to the transverse link recall, so I took the car in for the recall, and nope still there. I drive a lot for my work, and haven't had time to take it back to the dealer until last week. So I went in for my oil change, and asked them to drive it to see what they thought the noise was coming from. The service person comes over and states that they have found the problem...it is the front link pins, but they would have to order the Front link pin kit and they could service it on Friday (of last week). So I say fine, and return on Friday for them to perform the service, they tell me that it will take about an hour, and will call me when it is ready, this was at 9am. Well 1:00 pm rolls around, and I finally get a call from the service manager. He says Scott, well its not good, I need you to come by and swap out loaner cars because we are going to need your car for several days. So I journey to the dealer and the misery begins. He tells me that the front link pins didn't solve the problem, and in fact it is the suspension cradle that is warped. It puts the car up on the jack, and begins to show me how he can manipulate the front wheels in what ever direction that he chooses and tells me that there is no way he is going to let me leave with the car, because he doesn't know how that the wheels haven't fallen off yet with all of the driving I have been doing, and that the car is totally unsafe to drive. The whole time I am thinking to myself I can't believe what I am hearing...I just bought my first brand new car, I have had it for 7 months, and the service manager is telling me literally he doesn't know how the wheels are still ON (I knew I should have spent the extra $$$ for the TL type S)!!!! Anyway, I get the car back today, and everything is much better, except for my confidence in Nissan products. The noise is no longer there, and the steering is much, much tighter, but I can honestly say that I doubt I will ever purchase another Nissan. Between the horrible excuse for paint, and the total lack of quality craftsmanship. I really hate to feel this way especially since I was planning on adding to my Nissan family with a 350Z convertible next spring, but I think I will be going with a used M roadster, or S2000 for my weekend toy.
Anyway, I know there were a few others on here that were experiencing other strange under-carriage noises, and I just wanted you all to know to make sure to have it checked out before some disastrous happens.

What the hell is wrong with 2k2's..
I have all sorts of noises underneath but NISSAN (three dealerships) have reported the usual
NO PROBLEMS FOUND or UNALBE TO DUPLICATE..
IDIOTS, i hope i get in to an accident in my car as a result of the problems i am having..
SO I CAN SUE THE PANTS OFF NISSAN..

Re: Update on 2K2 with Noise over Bumps (long)
Well I will have to say this, the service team totally bent over backwards, and were extremely pleasant. They filled my car up, sent it to the in house detail (it looks like it did when it first rolled off the showroom floor), and gave me 3 vouchers at Shell to have it filled up in the future. They were really excellant.

Re: Update on 2K2 with Noise over Bumps (long)
Wow, Kinda scary. I'm getting some weird pinging/spring type noises that seem to come from the suspension as well. Although I've got the I35. I know it's basically a Maxima with the Infiniti badges. Was your problem an isolated case? I'm hoping my problem is something the transverse link recall will fix. I have yet to bring my car for the recall work. It's going in Friday. Regarding bringing the car in, if they happen to notice the FTSB or more importantly, the Intake, we'll they notate it the computer and possibly void a portion if not all of the warranty? I still have about 45k+ miles or about 4 years to go on the warranty.

Same looseness/noises experienced here.....
happened AFTER the transverse link recall. Feels like there is looseness/play in the steering/suspension system, and can mostly be felt at low speed over speedbumps or pot holes. It's hard to describe, but I just know something isn't right. I too drive a lot of miles and haven't had the chance to get the car in, however it has now jumped up a few places on my priorities list. I'll let you know if there is anything interesting that is found.
BTW, wish my Nissan dealer gave out loaner cars

I am taking this car in to the dealership on 10/5 for the 15k maintenance and I am going to tell them about this so I can get some semblance of peace of mind. I am not leaving until this is resolved to my satisfaction.
I know what he is talking about. It sounds like something is very loose when hitting bumps and there is a mild to moderate amount of play in the steering.

Scott,
I think I have the same problem too. Only I noticed it months ago and I bought my car ending of May so it's not very old either. The noise that you mention, is it like a clunking noise? Kinda like when you go over a speed bump kinda fast, that it sounds like the spring is completely uncompressing or something? Also, does your steering kinda feel weird? Like you need a wheel alignment or wheel balancing or something? I'm hoping your symptoms are same as mine so that I can push my local dealer to check it out.
I appreciate any kind of detailed symptoms you can give me.
Thanks!

....Do they give out loaner cars to people who have the standard warranty?*I got the suspension changed from them, and the rotor last time, cuz they were messed up*
Nissan is getting me angry!
sorry for venting...

Another thing we have noticed with these noises also is when a technician uses an impact wrench to tighten the bolts on the stabilizer link pin it strips the inner plastic bushing which will lead to a knocking noise. We've seen a few of these after the transverse link recalls were performed.

I am taking my car in to get this stuff checked out.
I had the noise and knocking(losseness) in the steering wheel when hitting bumps, etc. before I did traverse link recall. It seems like it gotten even worse after I did the recall.
Damn Nissan.
I hope they can fix that problem.

I read this thread last Friday, so for the third time I brought my Max back to the dealership and showed them a printed out version of it. Once again they said they'll look at it, and one again they "couldn't duplicate" the problem. This is really starting to bother me! Should I report this problem to someone else?
