Question about Auto Tranny

i know that some people, in order to get better quarter mile times, they shift the car themselves.

But I want to know if this is good for the car if I do this everyday, like when im not on the track. I want to do this beccause i find it is so much more fun.

Im not sure but will the 2002 reach red line when its in drive??

The reason I shift my 2000 auto is because the car shifts short of redline when Its left in drive.

To answer your qustion its not really bad to manually shift because all that happens when you move the shifter is your telling the cars computer to make the shift

I stopped manually shifting my tranny after replacing it for the third time.

I don't think I would do it all of the time, but whenever I want to experience a little fun, I shift manually. I agree that it shouldn't hurt anything as long as you're not abusing it (red line every time you leave a stop light).

the reason that they manual shift an auto is to get closer to redline. but it still takes a little time for it to change gear...notice: u dun get it popped into the next grear right after u shift. u get better high end, also u have to gave up sometime for it to shift.

anyways, back to ur question....I wont do it too often or abuse it. I know those are not designed for shifting manually. And I wont even bother to manual downshift it.

The auto tranny responds too slow to make manual shifting even remotely entertaining.

I like to downshift into third on my '02 when I want to pass on the interstate, but have never redlined it. Hopefully I'm not doing any damage to my transmission.

yah...to 3rd gear its alright to downshift, not a lot of power there to ruin the gear from the force of the downshift

My 2k Max had the little button to turn off overdrive - essentially downshifting to 3rd. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the 2k2 Maxs dumped the button and now have a quasi-autostick just between 3rd and 4th - better. The 6th gen Accords are made to work this way, too. It's too bad though that you can only do the 3-4 shift easily (without having to push the big thumb button to get to D2 or D1). They could create an interlock mechanism that will let you shift D2 the same way but only if you stopped at D3 first (i.e. only let you go one gear at a time in any direction). Or they could just do the Acura autostick with + and - which is probably just as good.
