Third BOSE Head Unit In 9 Months !

I've owned my 2002 Maxima SE for 9 months and I'm on my third BOSE head unit. Last time it was the CD player skipping badly. This time it's sound distortions and intermittent cutting out coming from the left side speakers while playing CDs. What a piece of crap this ' premium ' BOSE unit is. Clarion, who builds the head unit, is suppose to have a good rep. Maybe so but the quality of the head unit ending up in the Maxima is very poor. Just like with the last replacement, due to the huge # of backorders I have been advised that the wait can be anywhere from 3 weeks to 2 months !! The service writer at the dealership told me that they have a steady stream of Maximas coming in for BOSE head unit replacements ( Altima & 350Z also ). And, I love Nissan's defensive position on this issue. Same as last time. " Gee, it's not our product " as if that should make any difference at all. It's no wonder that Nissan customer satisfaction ranks so low. I told Nissan HQ that the on-going problems with Nissan components ( including the installed audio system ! ) has driven me away from future Nissan purchases. And, as far as BOSE goes, I will never buy another new car with a BOSE audio system unless I get the cost of the unit fully discounted off of my best offer.

BOSE is just the speakers and amp. This is appearently a clarion problem. I was VERY interested in their 925DVD (like $2K). But I read they were all recalled for CD mech problems. Went I went around locally to the car stereo places, I had hoped to see a 925 in person. But, all the local shops had *just* dropped Clarion due to failures and lack of support.

You think you're pi$$ed? The stereo guys were saying that their customers were getting very irate. They had just dropped $2k on a headunit and it was freaked out. Clarion wasnt very helpful in getting a replacement, so many of these shops felt put out and had very unhappy clients. Some were saying it just got too expensive for them to carry Clarion now. They loved them up til about 12-18 months ago. Customers also didnt enjoy getting refurbs back on their *brand new* units

yeah.. and I have nightmares of BigDogs car, so for now when I'm parked like in downtown Memphis or Dallas, I'm loving my Bose. If I had some reasonable assurance I wouldnt be *giving* 3K away, I'd have a bad a$$ setup.

I've had 3K+ systems before and right now I value being able to go to the movies/mall without worrying about my car. Yeah, Bose does have some issues, no denying that.
