Fuel economy on Y2K

I guess, this is the question for a city Maxima drivers.
I have 28K on my Maxima and I can put only 190 miles per full tank driving in the city mostly without traffic. It comes to about 12 miles per gallon, which is far away from 20m/g promised by Nissan.
On a highway it also comes to around 24m/g, which is lower then...

What is your experience with the fuel consumption?

Thanks for your entries.

I have a 2k 5spd with 27k. I usually get 380-400 per tank. I would say that is about 75% highway driving though.

If you search on this topinc you would find a number of variables can greatly impact mileage...

Geez, that's not that great. This last tank, I have 320 miles on the car and the light just came on. Still not on E. This is completely city miles in Louisville too. Highway miles, I have gotten close to 500 miles.

With the A/C off I get about 250-300 miles per tank in stop and go, marginally higher on highways. On average, stop and go driving I get 17 to 19 mpg while on highways I see about 24 mpg. Hope that helps.

From my experience, major gas consumption reasons:
1. Auto gear box
2. Failed O2 sensor (you'd get SES in this case), takes at least 10% off your mileage.
3. Canadian gas.
4. Your driving style, of course.

I'm getting 18/22 mpg mixed/hwy driving here in Toronto, auto, AC 100% "ON".

In addition to what was mentioned already, big metro areas may have different gas formulations for emission purposes but they hurt the mileage. Nevertheless, I still think that your mileage is unusually low, I've never got less than 20mpg even with 100% city driving.

I drive a 2K Autotragic SE. City driving 21mpg, Hwy 26-28mpg. Always use A/C, or heater. Keep in mind that usually when the gas light comes on, you still have 3-4 gallons left in the tank. It's an 18.5 gallon tank. Hope this helps.

I bought my 2000 used with 68k miles. I was getting 400-425 miles to the tank all highway driving. The air filter that was in the car was not an oem filter so I decided to change it out when I did my oil change at 74k. Since the filter change I am lucky to get 400 out of a tank. I may drive 10 miles of back road a day. All other driving is highway. The reason why I changed the air filter is because it looked like it was too big for the airbox and that it was jammed in there. This would cause less air flow into the enigne. Maybe this is the reason for better gas mileage.

I cant understand why...maybe my foot is getting heavier.

Running with the A/C all summer I got 325-340 per tank with 70% city 30% hwy. It only takes 16-16.5 gallons to fill up, so I could get more.
