question about high speed handling

hi guys,

i just purchased my 2000 gle a couple of weeks ago and it rides great, the only thing i have noticed is that at high speeds between
65-85 the car feels a little to loose or uncontrolable, especially when i change lanes. It is kind of scary sometimes....

is this normal?

if not how can i fix it?

i have stock 16 in rims and the tires are almost bald, could that be it?

do i need 17in rims?

any advice would be appreciated!

thanks

A little more info would help us here...

What specific size tires are on it now? What make/model of tire?

What do you mean by loose? Front end? Read end wander?

Well is has 16in rims its prob a gxe, 17in rims and performance tires would help, you will notice a big difference. For more info use the search option on that one you'll find alot of info on that.

the rims are 16in 5 spoke oem, i am not 100% sure on the size I will have to check after work the size, the backs are falken and the front are continental, size i beleive are 215 50.

the looseness is like a swaying from the back of the car...

sorry for the little info...

thanks for your input..

come to think of it "rear end wander" describes it exactly...

It is best to have a uniform set of tires...same make, same model...so the handling of both axles is the same...

as for the rear end wander a rear sway bar should help that...it will be most noticeable on cornering, but should also help on lane changes, particularly quick ones...

After changing tires/wheels try the rear sway bar and front tower strut brace combination. It will improve the handling. See the FAQ's for more details. The RSB by itself will be noticeable immediately.
