Paint problem - not chipping, though...
Paint problem - not chipping, though...
I have a 2.5 yr old 2K GLE with 26k on it. I've just noticed a major blemish on my front bumber. The paint has a large (5 inches long) swirl in it. It is cracking into a zillion cracks. The cracking looks like its in the paint and the clear coat because it is rough to the touch. This just appeared out of nowhere! I know there are a lot of you out there with paint problems, and I searched the forums to see if anyone had anything similar; didn't find anything. The main characteristic about it that strikes me as strange is the swirling shape of it. Wierd. Anybody else had this sort of thing happen after a while?

Sounds like something hit your bumper...flexed it in which would cause the cracking you described.

Furthermore, the shape of the damage is swirly shaped, with finger-like protrusions.
I guess there's nothing I can do about it but pout...

Its either somebody sabotaged my car when I wasn't looking, or its some wierd paint defect. Considering its to the left of my license plate, which is completely intact, it couldn't have been another car...

I agree

Probably a car backed into yours with the corner of its bumper? The flexing of the bumper would cause the swirls you described.
