For the ECU....

Try some junk yards. A few years ago I picked up an additional 4th gen ECU for 100 bucks. Not to say you'll find one thta cheap, but you should be able to do better than any other source

Hmmnnnn..does'nt the ECU quality under

the federal emmission warranty requirements? It seems to me it does and if that's the case it should be warranted up to at least 5 years and 50k miles....

...good point, check into that, maybe even get an attorney, even that would be cheaper than $2000 for parts...

What!!!!

Isn't the ECU part of the "Powertrain" warranty for 5yr/60K? If not, that's BS, since it's an integral part of the engine.

I doubt it's the ECU anyways. Good luck!

...Dude, you are getting robbed. Don't buy that $1000 ECU because 'they ordered it and can't return it...' that is CRAP. They need to cover it under warranty RIGHT NOW or else PROVE that your alarm caused the short, thats the law. Don't let yourself get taken for a ride!

ECU blown at 43K

I tried gettin the ECU for 225 but since the dealer ordered it i cannot return it casue it is not a part they stock normally... also it is not under PT warranty but it is under Federal emission standard but they say its not a factory problem because i have an aftermarket crimestopper alarm so they want to blame the alarm but they alarm still works so i dont know how the alarm shorted and jacked the ECU but still works so i want them to show me so until next week i dont know what the problem is... also i need a main wiring harness if mine is jacked so if anyone knows where i can find that for cheaper than 1000 it be most appreciated.... thanks

Try Dave Burnette 800-251-7278 for the wiring harness. Also, you'll need to get your keys/ECU reprogrammed or the car won't start.

Good luck!

Another option is to try and buy extra warranty from your insurance company. I bought the warranty from AAA for my Camry after I busted the rack pinion steering. They only asked for the mileage of the car and the type of warranty that I wanted. But I have to wait for a month and 1000 miles later to make a claim. But you can always tell them a lower figure for the mileage and make a claim later. Study their policy carefully before you make the purchase. Good luck.

Get the car towed to another dealer for a second opinion. Don't tell them ANYTHING about the first dealer, and see what they tell you. I sincerely doubt that BOTH the ECM and the harness blew out all at once while you were driving the car . . .

after talkin to consumer affairs they have said they will pay half of the damage and possibly all if everything checks out on the car... they want to know about major repairs or wrecks and i dont have any of those so hopefully i get the a OK and then i will be home free and the dealer can charge whatever he wants....
