2k2 SE auto: 14.49 @ 95.26

Ran 7 times:

R/T: .577 (best of day)
60': 2.204 (2.154 best)
1/4: 14.492 (14.490 best)
MPH: 95.26 (best of day)

For power, the only mod I have is a custom intake (same idea as Injen, just from scratch).

The 14.492 run was my first of the day and I had a feeling that it was going to be my quickest run. I had iced down the intake manifold and it definitely worked. I didn't ice down for the next two runs and went 14.646 @ 93.60 and 14.614 @ 93.38 respectively.

I then ran my friends lightly modded GTP (3.4" SC pulley, K&N cone, Adj. FPR, catback SLP exhaust) and smoked my way to a beating, with him running his personal best (14.067 @ 97.15) and me lighting up my tires to a 14.841 @ 93.75 (6.350 330' time, which was about .25-.3 off my average). The car really felt strong (iced), cause I was launching from 2k rpms like I had all morning and the tires just went up.

So I then thought that the 14.492 was a fluke. I iced the manifold down again and ran 20 minutes later. I managed to back it up with a 14.490 @ 94.30, followed by 14.522 @ 94.33.

I then ran my buddy's GTP again (wanted it to be a little more fair). I tree'd him (.636 R/T vs. his 1.051) and cut a 2.169 60'. He spun out of the hole (2.271 60') so the favor was returned. He ran quicker: 14.315 @ 96.65 vs. my 14.504 @ 93.43 but he was watching my taillights the whole time (literally..he taped it!) and was inching his way towards me at the end.

So all in all, not too bad. Excluding the tire-spinning run, I averaged 14.544 @ 94.05.

Did you keep it in drive or manually shift gears?

When you manually shift it, do you take your foot off the gas when you move the shifter, and wait until you feel it shift before you get back on the gas? That's what I always have to do, otherwise it seems like it won't shift. It makes sense, I suppose, if you think about how you shift on a MT. I was just wondering how everybody shifts their auto, and what kinda wait they have before getting back on the throttle.

I have the same problem. When I shift manually it takes forever to shift.

Keep your foot on the gas at ALL TIMES! The reason it shifts "faster" when you take your foot off the gas is because its shifting for you, regardless if you manually shift.

I see what you're saying, but it seems that whenever I keep my foot on the gas during a manual shift, it feels like it won't shift and just stays in that gear.

I noticed that if left in 3 or D the car shifts much faster, but it's shift points aren't as reliable especially while already in motion.

Whenever I manually shift, it takes approx. 500 rpms from the time I move the lever until the trans actually shifts. I notice no extra time in between shifts, whether manual shifting or letting it do it on its own (but I've never really paid attention..something to do on the way to work today).

Damn!! Looks like Hawks just laid the gauntlet down on us shiftless 2K2/3 folks. I'm gonna "attempt" manually shifting my Max next time and see if I can at least beat my 14.725sec ET. (Note to self: Purchase bag of ice before going to track)

Nice job bro!! As for your buddy with his GTP, he's boosting but is still barely quicker than you.

Great representin'.

On some cars, using the lower gears increases line pressure, which results in quicker/firmer shifts (not too sure this is happening in the Max, however).

It really posts no danger to the trans. If you're really worried, make sure you are checking your fluid level often, changing it every 15k or year, and get an aftermarket trans cooler. There is no better way to take care of your trans than to make sure there is the proper level of clean fluid, and that the fluid temperature is satisfactory. Heat is a major killer of transmissions.

Ok, I heard that all you 2K2's have to do is leave the car in "3" and not shift. The reason that 2K and 2K1's usually shift when racing is because they want to hit at or very close to redline. This is where the 3.0 gets most of its power. The 2K2's get most of their power at like 5800? or so, so no reason to shift.

Actually, my 660' and 1000' times were quicker when I went to redline, rather than shifting at lower rpms.

2001SE hawk....did you redline the gears?

did you torque brake?
I did, and I experimented with other rpm shifts.

And yes, my best launches came when I stalled to 1800 rpms. 2000 rpms provided alot of smoke.

you fully press the brake pedal while in gear....and then you floor the gas pedal and quickly let go of the brake pedal

that should give you a lot more better launch then just pressing the gas

if you break torque at a track, wont u just be sitting ther boning out because of the water or whatever they spray for the burnouts?

ditto.... i would think with all that torque.... u would just spin the tire and waste more time.....
i just easy into gas to get it started and then floor it.... so that my tires don't spin out

The water is not where you take off from. It's a good 10 feet behind that. You don't have to drive through the water to stage. Unless you are running slicks and want to do a burn out before your run stay away from the water.
So no, you won't sit there and spin your tires because of the water.

The 2K-2K1's are weak enough that I can just floor it and have traction
