Installed Frankencar Intake

Well, I got my Frankencar Intake yesterday and everything looked okay except for one (hopefully) small thing. I noticed on the inside of the midpipe, that the breather pipe was protruding inside the pipe. I'm pretty sure that this affects the airflow coming in. Has anyone else noticed this? The pipe is probably about 1/4" inside the mid pipe.

Anyway, installation was a breeze, took all of about 15 minutes, including making a custom bracket to mount the intake to the strut tower.

Took it out for a spin and MAN, this thing is LOUD. Unfortunately, unlike most org members, I only think the sound is OK. Not really awesome sounding, but just OK. I do notice, for some reason, that the RPMs don't rev as fast. Maybe I just need to give the ECU some time to adjust (I did disconnect the battery for about 3 minutes).

Other than that, all is good in Hawaii now!!!

Hmm my pipe was fine, I even looked in it before installing it and I didn't see anything sticking out inside.

Maybe we should be asking Steve this question. Steve, if you're reading this, what's your take on this?

They are both good. I have a Frankencar midpipe, with Berk blue hoses, and a Berk K/N filter... Sounds great and looks good too.. Lots of pics on my homepage. I felt the effect in the mid to high RPM range. The car really woke up.

I felt pick in the mid to high RPM range too. However, it seems like the bottom end kinda suffered a bit. I guess you can't win them all.

My friend has a dyno at his house. Yes, at his house! He KINDA runs a shop out of his house and bought a used dyno recently. This guy has it all... a 300ZTT, old school Corolla GTS for drifting, GSR and.... he just got an NSX. WTF!!!

Anyway, I will be doing dyno runs with and without the intake. Will let you know how it goes.

What kind of 'shop'? Downstream distribution from Latin America?

Ever had the experience of going through a tunnel at WOT with the intake???

If not, find a tunnel and try it.

Well, he has his own auto performance shop where he does engine swaps and stuff. His father owns a business where they buy totalled or near totalled cars and repairs them and then sells them. So, its pretty safe to say that they have their pick on what cars they want. Totalled or not, they look and run awesome!!

I just installed a Franken midpipe and Berk intake. I like it. I get a whistling out of my K/N - do you guys get that? I think the sound is great though. I like the idea that if you're cruising it's quiet.

I'd like to find a performance muffler, y-pipe etc. that is also quiet. Any recomendations? I was thinking of trying to find an AE exsaust sytem somewhere. Isn't the AE different and what increased the HP over the standard model for 2001?

The whistling is common with this set-up. If you listen closely, after you turn off the car, you can hear the intake releasing air pressure (at least that's what it sounds like). Mine did not do this the first few months, but now it's more noticeable.
