03 Intake and stuff....

Ok, I took delivery of my 03 SE this afternoon, I tried the search option but it brought up way to many treads about intakes to wade thru, what I’m looking for is an intake, checked Stillen with no luck. Is the 02 the same engine as the 03? To the 03 folks what's the best upgrade path you've used? Thanks.

The only thing different about a 2k2 and a 2k3 is that the 2k3 has the Titanium Edition. As for the rest of the car, everything is the same. As far as the intake goes, I have been looking into this as well and I think it comes down to your personal preference. I think that I am leaning toward the Injen CAI.

Good luck with your choice..

WOW! That was a great price! Let me know how you like it. It definately is the best looking one as well as the most potent. If you can, post some pics.

Great price?? You could have saved about $60-70 through adventon.com or the GD going on now.

I stand corrected. I hate when I am wrong....

Guess I'm living up to my newbie status.

Don't you have to bore a 3" hole in your fender for one of those? Looking for clean reversal when it comes to trade in time. We'll see, hell I only have 277 miles on it so far, I don't even know how it performs now compared to my 01/AE/SE.

OK, first off, I hate bashing the new guys as we all were one, but you have got to search and READ. Yes, it returns a ton of info, but that is the clue.... there is a TON of info already posted about this. Good point is, if you would have researched a bit more, you would have found the Adventon deal. In fact Adventon has been running the same prices since they offered the Intake for the 2k2-2k3.

There is a ton on this site, yes it is overwelming sometimes, but everything you want to know is there. Take a couple days/weeks and read. Dont post, just read. First off you will find a lot of what you want, plus you will learn how the "law of the land" goes on this site.

I will say this is one of the best sites you can find for autos. I have seen many, and most of them everyone acts like a bunch of punk kids, talking trash and cussing each other out. Here people seem to be more cordial with one another. Even so, everyone hates when people don't post a certain way, or son't search first.

By the way, welcome to the ORG.

Yeah I waisted my $$ on the Frankencar back in the day too. Then I went to the Injen for better "all around" performance. They both have their good sides, but the Injen's good side outweigh the Franken about 5 to 1. Franken's being good top end, thats about it.

the only diff is the titanium package and the different buttons for the window up/down, door lock, etc.

By the way guys. Since the temp is finally dropping around here. In the cooler mornings and nights, my car is pulling wayyyy harder than it ever did with the Frankentake in. The Injen is doing it's job.

Just an FYI for the shoppers.

I never said I wasted money on FrankenCar. I still have it and love it. I was saying that I think it is a waste of money getting Injen intake, when I got my FrankenCar for 1/3 of the price of Injen.

And I think FrankenCar performs great. Maybe same as Injen or even better. I have not lost any low end and my top end is out of this world. Especially now as it got colder outside. As many people indicated, that Injen doesn't pull that hard at top, I will take my FrankenCar with straight pipe over Injen any day.

To each his own, both intakes are good I think, but I wasn't planning to spend 3 times the money for the same thing.
Only thing going for Injen is it shiny look.

I wasnt thinking that you said you waisted your money. I was saying I thought my Franken was great as well. Until I tried this intake.

I actually got the Franken when he first came out. I think I paid about $140 or something like that. ridiculous if you ask me.

To answer your post though, you really don't know how to compare your intake to something you have not had in your car. I have had both in my car. I had the franken starting in Feb. It was nice when it was cold. When the Humid heat kicked in here and I found myself sitting in traffic for up to 2 hours at a time. I found that the Franken was bogging the motor so bad that on multiple occasions I almost got rear-ended due to this intake not performing well. It got so bad that I came very close to going back to stock.

I picked up the Injen to try it out. Within 5 days it had proven itself a much more solid product. Now the weather is colder and the Injen is pulling even more now with the colder air.

As for the top end being not as hard, BS. Again I have had both, and the Injen climbs the RPM line just as fast as the Franken did. Again, it comes down to choice, but you cant say what is better if you have never installed both.

Other than that, this all comes down to a bunch of Sh!thouse scientists that think they know physics so damn well that they can explain without ever owning or testing a product why it will/will not work as well as the other. I am not saying you are one of those people Dany, but you know there are some of these guys that think they are Albert Einstein or something.

Fact is Bob, get what you want, test things out, and buyer beware.

Yeah it might be true that FrankenCar does take away some low end, but I have not noticed that. It was pretty hot this summer in Boston, but it performed great.

I added some extra tubing to get more cooler air towards the filter, I don't know if it does anything, but doesn't hurt.

What I am trying to say is I don't think extra money that Injen charges for intake are worth it.

Before we go balistic on each other... we have to understand that everyone has their own preference. We all love our cars, and we all want what's best for the car and ourselves. Those who have the Franken typically like it. Those owners are a little more cost conscious and don't mind the extra noise it makes. Those who like a little more flash and don't mind paying a little more will go for the Injen. The performance difference between the two is sooo negligible, that only the dyno will tell the difference. I have the Injen, and I have been super happy with the performance gains and improved engine response. The sound of the engine during WOT is also orgasmic. I wouldn't go as far to say that it is a true CAI because, as many Injen users have mentioned, the tubes seem to heat up quite a bit during normal use. This would cause the air traveling inside the tube to warm up. The air is probably still a little cooler than the air from the top of the engine bay that the Franken sucks in. There are easy fixes for this problem (header wrap) that may affect the way the intake looks for show purposes.

Bottom line: get what you're comfortable with. If you can afford the Injen, go for it. If not, go for the Franken or Franken/Berk.

Good luck and happy modding

1/3 of the price my a$$! More like less than $100 more. The fit and finish are worth it.

it's about twice as much for an injen and they don't give you a filter choice.

Can you post pics of your silver? Is it titanium silver or is it sheer silver?
