When I drive my car and the RPM's get close to 3K, it starts to pull like there's added boost. What's doing that, is there some kind of special induction system?

 

No, it might be the exhaust. Apparently the stock muffler only runs on one pipe at first and the other chamber opens up with higher pressure going through it.

This is what the dealer told me and it is probably a big, fat lie. So take it for what it's worth.

 

he is correct, I have a 2001 muffler on my 97 and it works as advertised


and what you feel is Torque. The engine hits it's good TQ curve right at about 3200 RPMs. It's normal.. be happy

 

cool cool, yeah thats sweet. I love taking it up that high but im realizing the more i bring it up past 3.5K, the worse my mpg is. My best so far believe it or not is 29 mpg. That best my 3100 V6 in my grand am by 1 (the best engine i've owned to date---besides the VQ of course).

 

Don't the 2k2's have variable intake, similar to the technology used in the VE but improved? When I hit 3000 rpms the variable intake kicks in just like you see on the HP/torque curves.

 

you can also hear it in the engine when you get up into the higher rpms...it sounds almost like the vtec kicking in on my accord. lots of torque steer at that point as well
