intake silencer
does anyone know anything about this? it is supposed to make your engine a lot louder when you take it off...i am looking for that...i know mustangs have it and i've heard something about civics having it...anyone know if we do and, if so...what it looks like...how hard is it to take off etc. etc.? is it safe to take these off? i am looking for more engine noise so this would really help...any info on an intake silencer is very helpful
I think you mean the air-box which is the big black box on the right side of the engine compartment. The air filter is on one side of it. If you take out the filter, you will see that the box is hollow. You have to take it out when you put an intake on the car. The air filter element is kind of part of the box, so I am not sure if you can just take the box out without putting some sort of intake or filter on it.

If what you're looking for is more intake noise . . .
Just put a JWT Popcharger or SI or Place Racing CAI on your Max. That should get the job done. If that's not enough, a contact mike placed on or near the throttle body connected to a 1000 Watt Mono Power Amp and a couple of trunk mounted, 15" full-range speakers will beckon the local gendarmerie for miles around.

hehe gendarmerie... ye that would work too

never thought of that...
alright, this isn't what i'm talking about at all...on mustangs and i've heard something about civics, there is something called an intake silencer. it is some sort of small chord conected to the intake. i've heard that when it is taken off, it makes the engine a lot louder. i am not going to put another intake on my car...read my post about ypipe+other muffler to find out about that...there is something called an intake silencer and, i want to know if we have one and if so, if it is safe to take off

I'm not familiar with an intake silencer on the Max . . .
I believe the stock airbox acts as a silencer in its own right. I suspect the only way to make your intake louder is to get rid of the stock airbox. But then you're back to an aftermarket intake setup which, I gather, is not what you want.

.........MrBurner,
since I don't think we have a intake silencer. If you could get another stock intake box from someone, maybe on this forum and cut one or two large holes in the box, cover the holes with some kind of black wire mesh to match the color of the box and see if that's the "sound" your looking for. That's if you get a sound at all and if you do it will be louder than stock and at the same time you still have the original air filter, box , and looks. Not the best idea but like I said just an experiment.
